    she fought a smile, trying to remain stone-faced. it certainly proved to be difficult. he never meant harm with his pranks of course, so maia never liked reprimanding him. but now he was grinning at her like the cat that ate the canary. it was all too clear to her that he’d pulled a fast one the knight. ( that being said, the knight was kind of a jerk so she didn’t mind. it was her mother that would be upset. ) 

     “ this joke involved his armor being stolen so he had to go on guard in his underwear, sound familiar? “      

   he tries to bite back the smile in the slightest,     reeling toward the innocent facade he could put on so well.  he was a natural at it  ;  he mastered the art long ago.   it helped that everyone was older than him.   even if they didn’t recognize it,   they seemed to dote on the young boy   -   it made it easier for him to get away with the things he did. his hands clasp together behind his back,   feet pushing him upward in a distracting little bounce.   

  “ oh,   i heard about that knight.    apparently he said some pretty horrid things,   must have gotten what was coming to him.    it is the will of the world,    so to speak. ” 

    it was practically a decree that it was done in retaliation.   mordecai always had a reason for his pranks  ;  he didn’t blindly cause a havoc despite it appearing as such.

    “well,   sure i’ve seen a pocket watch.   i am friends with the white rabbit’s son  ;  he’s obsessed with time!”  he’s being coy,    picking a little harmless fun with the other.    a small chuckle as he shakes his head,   hand sneaking into his pocket before pulling out the device and holding it to show the boy.   “i figured it was his,  you know.   it’s hard telling how many he has in his collection.”   he tuts for a moment,  offering the item without a thought.  “those wonderland kids and their freak obsessions.”
