so beyond irritated lately bcos like, all the kids I used to babysit are having children (which is great! They’re grown!), but it’s my mom being as per usual a fucking cunt about things. She called me, /asked me how my promotion is going/ (a promotion, I might add, has me making more $$ than her and is a management position in city government and long term!!!) and then after I got 7 fucking words out of my mouth, interrupted me to talk about all the babies. I went along because I also love kids, and after twenty five fucking minutes of her talking about it, I try to mention oh so with my new job. And she immediately sighs loudly, rolls her eyes (we are on FT), and goes “it’s really boring for you to talk about your job when there’s much more exciting things happening, like all the new babies”. I half joked oh I guess I’ll just call back when I have a baby so I can be interesting and she rolled her eyes again and said “then you’d never call back, you won’t have kids”. I just faked that my bff was calling and hung up. It’s unreal.

My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
