hi im sorry if this is a rude or weird question to ask but are you Black? i just saw the backrooms movie and im deathly curious about Black viewers’ perspectives about Clark’s character bc overall i liked him (and the film) a lot but also i feel like theres a couple things that rubbed me the wrong way but i cant really say for sure because i am very nb haha. if you wanted to elaborate on the microaggressions or any other thoughts you had about how his character was handled and treated i would LOVE to hear more!!!!
I will start by saying I am a basic white woman but i try to keep my own biases in check and make sure things don't get pushed under the rug for the sake of "keeping fandom positive", especially since we live in a society where fandom looooves to thirst over the 2 mins of screentime side characters and take any criticism as "not their fault for not relating to the main character for Some Reason"
So if other Black people wanna give their own takes then by all means!
For what I see, it's a familiar case of the director not thinking too much about what it means to have the main character be Black when he has anger and control issues and later on kidnaps his therapist (a white woman), and is generally the only Black char in the film
Obviously not on purpose and Chiwetel was the perfect choice, but its a common phenomenon for (white) filmmakers to not realize the Implications they create when casting a poc in specific roles
Also a smaller note but ive seen many posts on here say no Black person would want a white therapist akaneofbfifbrjr
EDIT: i will not respond to anymore asks regarding this. I simply made a silly post to point out a complex issue that i cannot wholly understand the nuance of cause again. I'm a basic white woman
