When you start with a simple idea, planning to write 3k words at most and it spirals into 7k in an instant. Bonus points when you're at 7k words and still not finished!
I will probably die upon this hill alone, when I say that Beatrix returning as a villain actually sounds like a fun and good idea. I actually mean it.
But why in Season 4 Part 1?
I will go on a rant here about Ninjago Dragons Rising most hated Beatrix Vespasian-Orus so if u care about a textwall, feel free to stay.
So. Madwoman Beatrix. I think she's not that bad of a villain. In the first season she was decent, since I see her as necessary for Imperium's motiv of fascism to function. Is she annoying and unlikable? yes. Absolutely. It fascinates me.
So they brought her back for Season 4, with a backstory about her being in the land of monsters and fusing her human body and mech into something... not so human anymore. She has a lot of connections in the merged lands with loyal followers believing in her rightful heritage to the throne.
But why bring her back for Season 4!!!!
The ideas are solid enough! Honestly, I think if she had taken part in a season focused on Sora or even Kai it could've been really cool!
Instead she's featured in a season focused on Lloyd, the aftermath of the source dragons leaving, and imbalance in the energies of the merged lands.
Beatrix just doesn't fit at all. And I think that's the reason this wretched woman felt so underwhelming as an antagonist. She wasn't designed to oppose the seasons ideas, wasn't designed to question Lloyd's character arc or even the source dragons.
She was so perfectly designed for Kai, istg!! The land of monsters and Kai go hand in hand, why not give them any meaningful interaction! Or Sora. Yeah, at the end she and her parents have something going on, setting up her next character arc or smth, but like... this season wasn't Sora's season, it was Lloyd's, maybe Riyus, Fraks and a little bit of Jays.
Not to mention, another issue I have is the fact the show completely ignored Zeatrix there. Beatrix came back, where the hell was her revenge seeking sister? You can't tell me that woman breaks into Imperium in a following season, kills Beatrix in the dungeons, and that's it. You can't expect me to believe that you plan on bringing back Beatrix thrice, just because you couldn't do anything with her during the second time!!
This crazy woman had so much potential in the right settings!!
Imagine her and Kai interacting with each other. Imagine the new idea she challenges being what does and doesn't count as a human. Imagine her actually feeling like a threat emotionally, rather than through her loyalists and numbers. She deserved so much better....

I'm not saying people actually forget, she did play a major role in DR season 1 and now in 4 too, while also getting mentioned by her sister Zeatrix in Season 2 and stuff, but it feels like nobody actually wants to make content of her. I find that kinda sad :(

:'D Is she really that redundant as a character? Does everybody just dislike her that much? Where are my Beatrix focused fanfics? Where is my art for this wretched monster parading in human form (coughs in Season 4)!
Yes, I am writing a Beatrix centered longer fic of her and Kai being stuck in the land of monsters, bickering and always on the verge of killing each other.
And no, I am not shipping them. I just wanna see if I can get this woman to actually become a better person now with a role model named Kai who is absolutely not traumatised (I say sarcastically).

I've been writing a one shot* about what could follow after Ninjago DR Season 4 part one. So skip this post if u didn't watch it yet and don't wanna get spoiled.
It's basically exploring the possible consequences of Sora's parents coming back. I set up the whole trauma, character interactions and some happier moments, but I don't know how to resolve the fic! I've been sitting on the ending for the last few days and no idea seems good! Either it doesnt fit what I built up towards or feels like a sidequest when I really just wanna finish it with a happy ending, not derail and make a 20k word fic. (At this rate, it might end up becoming that.)
Do I just rewrite the whole thing to actually build up towards an end that fits it somewhat, or stick with what I have and hope I don't end up writing another 6k words to resolve the stuff satisfyingly.

For context I decided to outline the fic for anyone that cares.
Basically, Soras parents show up, she goes into a panic attack and then becomes severly confused by having had panicked at all. Amongst cute moments with family dynamics and Frak, Lloyd and Arin trying to help the most, she feels unsafe at home.
Which is kinda the point of the fic. I want to make her realise that she panicked because what she percieves as danger has infiltrated her safe space, so now she feels unsafe at the monastery.
But then what. Like, do I make her have a convo with Lloyd? Make her realise what's wrong and then have them get away from ninja life a bit to relax at, I dunno, the beach? Crossroads? TvT Why is writing so difficult istg
Okay, so you say it isnt cuz of Zane (read the tags), and I think I have to agree.
Weirdest of all, Kai‘s elemental powers weren‘t entirely gone, right? So it should’ve shown some reaction from him because he did possess his elemental powers still, but severely drained.
So one: the staff actually works regardless of elemental powers (I haven’t rewatched the series, correct me if I’m wrong)
And two: It didn’t work on Kai because the condition for the staff to work was somehow blocked or taken, likely through Aspheeras magic.
If it’s not that, then that would mean that Pixal does have something from Zane, but it shows in a different colour either because the element doesnt determine the colour or because maybe Zanes power was split in a weird way when he gave her half of his energy source.
