my favorite kanej quote might be "it was as if once kaz had seen [inej], he'd understood how to keep seeing her" and it really hits so different when you consider nina's declaration that kaz's breath catches each time he sees inej like he's never seen her before - because he always knows she's there, and yet even though he's never surprised by her physical presence she still takes his breath away. it's why kaz's breath catching on inej matters more than any of the other crows getting surprised by her presence, like they do multiple times throughout the books. there is no element of surprise there for him, her sheer existence takes the air out of his lungs. that's love.
