Go where you are celebrated – not tolerated. If they can’t see your true value and worth, then it’s time for a new start.

*Trigger warning* This is meant to empower and show you support, the intent of this message is not to sadden you. -with love, PowerToTeens
#TheLinesProject2015 is from December 15-20 but #PowerToTeens will be collecting pictures of you and your lines from December 14-19! Message us your pictures to spread awareness and support those with mental illnesses! A collage will be posted on the 20th of all the pictures we receive! The #TuckerHighSchool group will be handing out stickers to students during the week of the fourteenth. Pictures can also be sent to powertoteens@gmail.
What is a trigger?
Being triggered is when you see, hear, feel, smell, touch, or even think something that causes strong unpleasant feelings/symptoms of your illness to flare and take over. Triggers can cause panic attacks, flashbacks, angry outbursts, disassociation, paranoia, tears and feeling hopeless, etc. It is like having an allergic reaction to something. Sometimes the effect is immediate and dramatic. Sometimes you feel disturbed at first, and you try to cope with it, but the feeling grows more distressing over the next few hours until you are in an episode. Triggers cause relapses – your symptoms are in control. Sometimes the relapses are temporary, sometimes they last a lot longer.
Triggers are like allergic reactions – you don’t have any control to keep them from happening except avoidance of what you’re allergic to/triggered by. You don’t have control over your reaction. You can’t decide to not have it. Sometimes medications can bring quick relief, sometimes the medication only helps a bit or not at all. The symptoms you experience after exposure are distressing and scary…even life threatening.*
*A lot of people experience suicidal ideation and their brain tells them they can fix this if they kill themselves, then they won’t have to deal with those feelings again or go through the struggle to work through them-again.
Some people thinking triggering panic attacks is funny and exciting or a way to get even for something minor. They think triggering someone is harmless, because it is just is emotions, and you get over those. Some people thinking triggering panic attacks helps people ‘get over the fear**. People who think those things are dangerously ignorant. Triggers aren’t funny or harmless. Intentionally triggering people is a dick move. It is like putting a little smear of peanut butter in the sandwich of someone who is allergic to peanuts. Triggers make someone sick – they cause symptoms.
**It is more likely to cause disassociation. Disassociation is when the brain starts shutting down processes to protect itself and ensure survival. Disassociation is feeling unreal, out of touch with reality, like it is happening to some other person and you aren’t really there. You feel like you are dreaming or watching a movie that you’re not into, but there is nothing else to watch.
People also say there are no trigger warnings in real life. This isn’t true. People censor themselves. They don’t usually throw everything they want to say out there for anyone of any age, psychological condition, or conservative belief to see. They put ratings on movies and television shows. Books are separated into categories by age and subjects – you don’t find books describing rape or sexual fetishes in the section holding books intended for reading by 6-9 year olds. Many people avoid religious or political conversations with people they just met, because religion and politics have a lot of ‘hot buttons’ that cause people to become impassioned to the point of aggressiveness. People usually warn others that a subject they are about to deliver information on involves graphic details like murder or surgery. People put labels on foods that say the product contains nuts or was processed in a facility where the product could have become contaminated by nuts. Etc.
TATTOO PSA
SO I HAVE NEVER ONCE SEEN A POST LIKE THIS. AND OBVIOUSLY TATTOO ARTISTS AREN’T GOING TO MENTION IT. BUT I FEEL LIKE THIS IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
IF YOU ARE A RECOVERING SELF HARMER AND ARE PLANNING ON GETTING A TATTOO, YOU NEED TO BE PREPARED FOR THE HEALING PROCESS TO BE VERY SIMILAR TO THAT OF CUTS. WHICH CAN BE EXTREMELY TRIGGERING.
THE SCABS ARE SUPER SIMILAR ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE GETTING WRITING OR FINE LINES. AND IT ITCHES JUST LIKE HEALING CUTS DO. I FEEL LIKE THIS NEEDS TO BE MENTIONED. NO ONE REALLY TOLD ME AND I GOT A HUGE REALITY CHECK THIS MORNING.
THAT IS ALL
I don’t usually share stuff like this, but as someone who also struggles with mental health issues, it’s understandable how sharing this could help someone out.
You struggle….again and again. And then one day, you triumph.
Kate Grace (via wordsnquotes)
Trigger warning. Although things may seem rough now you'll triumph in the end.
Asking for help is not a weakness. With Crisis Text Line, you can text "TWLOHA" to 741-741 and connect with a counselor.
This a cool blog and I really support you guys although I am kinda confused why you follow my blog. In any case, I'll try to boost your message in the future. Raise everyone up, right!?
Thank you so much for the support! And yes!!
You are more than what the negative thoughts people, society, and yourself are leading you to believe. Your life is priceless.
LIKE, SHARE, and REBLOG this so more people will learn the truth about Breakdowns and the stigma against them! STOP THE STIGMA I think there is something to be said about the way people feel about those who cry in public. I think there is something to be said about those who don't mask their emotions and let them show on their face. I think there is something to be said when people condemn this people and say they are weaker than others because they want to let our their emotions, let go of the problem, and then move on. Society today condemns those who break down, those who can't always mask their emotions or bottle them up. Why? I'm not sure. We all deal with problems differently, but does someone who cries in public to let stuff of their chest when they feel pressured get shamed when others are allowed to break down if they don't do it often? Crying isn't a sign of weakness, breaking down isn't either, neither is having a panic attack, or an anxiety attack. They are signs of Bravery, Strength, Courage! I've had two teachers tell me that I can't break down, that I have nothing to break down over, and that I'll face worse in the future. Why can't the future be the future? Why can't we prepare and deal with it then, why confront it now? People don't know what others go through, don't judge based on what you see from someone, even if you see them every day, you do not see everything. This is a life lesson, not telling someone they can't express themselves. That's not a life lesson, that's a STIGMA.
