(sry my vpn is broken so i change another that makes me missed the day😭)
i think people have gotten a little comfortable ascribing autism to others
I've told this story before, but it really sticks with me.
A couple years ago I was in a beer store in Pittsburgh on the day before the Daylight Savings Time changeover day. The cashier and (presumably) her friend were making small talk as I walked up to the register, and one of them said 'Yeah, who even came up with the idea of Daylight Savings?'.
I'm not the sort of person who can let an opportunity for some History of Science education pass me by, so I gave them a (brief!) summary of the history of Daylight Savings - that it was proposed by amateur entymologist George Hudson, since he wanted to have more daylight hours after his day job ended to collect insects.
One of the girls' immediate response was - and I quote - "Wow, we stan an autistic king".
I bit my tongue, but what I wanted to say was "You only learned that this guy existed 2 minutes ago, and you now know exactly one thing about him. That cannot possibly be sufficient for diagnosis".
But unfortunately, I've seen many a similar case since. Gen Z is really, really casual about ascribing ADHD and autism to random people (or animals, despite... well, nevermind) and one of these days I worry it's going to get someone in real trouble.
Oh, and the real kicker? The real punchline?
George Hudson was from England, but moved to New Zealand as a child and spent the rest of his life there. Under current rules, a diagnosis of autism can be sufficient to bar a person from immigrating to New Zealand.
Its "cute and quirky" to be autistic between friends
Its a black mark on your record to be autistic on paper
Its a hard row to hoe if youre socially obviously autistic or unable to mask to the degree society dictates
The normalisation of "OMG IM AUTISTIC TOO SO IS MY FRIEND!" Muddies the waters bc in my comminty you are forced to get psych screenings before getting medical help, so we have the bad paper documented one, not the quirky social nonsense one, and pretending theyre the same keeps people from understanding how damaging a forced diagnosis can be (see: your comment about nz immigration, one of thousands of examples)

So have a shitty doodle
Still cant believe the US had a party called the whig party and then STOPPED using it. Come on wig party. Yass, wig, party. Sounds like the name of a drag performance that lets bald people in for free. And don’t get me started on “Millard Fill more” or whatever her drag name is. Look at the wig situation here:

I explored a bit through of one MVB's many HarpWeek tabs. I wanted to collect a lot of mvb animals but then I remembered post image limits and found that the process was taking far too long. Regardless, I've found a few rats for you, but they're not presidents and mostly in jumbles.
This is all I can help you with rat-wise. The first are rats lacking indicated identities. The second picture I believe to be the kitchen cabinet (Jackson's cabinet, not including van.) The 3rd is Levi Woodbury (in one he's being toyed with by Daniel Webster.) The 4th, which is uncropped because it's filled with animals, has MVB among other rats, though it's not indicated who they are.
Beyond that, the 3 mvb rats (/mice) I posted earlier are among other rats, as you know.
The first image "The Mountain in Labour," depicts mvb and Calhoun as mice.
The second image, "The Rats Leaving a Falling House," depicts John Eaton, John Branch, and Samuel Ingham as rats along with mvb.
The third, ".00001 ~ the value of a unit with four cyphers going before it" shows William T. Barry under Jackson's arm, along with John Eaton, John Branch, Samuel Ingham again, and a dog Calhoun scaring rat mvb. Someone is also labeled D.I.O. All the sites I check seem to not know who that is.
I'll spam mvb animals on Discord since I have to put them somewhere.
when you're at the library and looking for a book about literally anything between the years of like 1855 and 1870 and you have to sift through multi-bookcase Lincoln Section to try to find any material at all on anything else, which they probably don't even have... i'd kill him too
