re:yuyuko i was talking about this last night with my girlfriend but dying and becoming an extension of the saigyou ayakashi was what made yuyuko's personality more sinister. she's essentially like. part of a hivemind? she's still yuyuko saigyouji, but she's also, on a deeper subconscious level, she's the saigyou ayakashi. which explains her insatiable appetite. the saigyou ayakashi would lure people to their deaths beneath its boughs so it could convert their bodies into nutrients, essentially "eating" them.

yuyuko meanwhile wants to devour everything and everyone she sees because of the ayakashi's innate thirst for blood. it's also why she's so huge. (both in height and weight) pre-death yuyuko was much more soft-spoken and kind, and she could hear the evil voice of the saigyou ayakashi when she was alive, which terrified her to no end. when she killed herself she used her body to bind the tree on purpose because she was so afraid of it and how many lives it would claim if she didn't try to stop it.

her wanting to unseal the tree is like, both an unconscious and conscious desire on the part of the saigyou ayakashi. to the point where she becomes exceedingly selfish and would go to any length to see its "full bloom." it's a lot less naive of her and more sinister, to see this once innocent girl essentially taken over by a supernatural parasite. she's not ALWAYS scary though, it's just certain modes she gets in where the line between "yuyuko" and "fucked up tree demon" begin to blur.

Change (Constantly changing shape, fluid viewpoint) Light (Pale skin, is most often drawn with the area around her faintly glowing) Action (Often acts first when it comes to the events of any given chapter, controls the situation even when captive) Death (Said by the Narrator, the Shifting Mound) Cats (The Beast, the Den, and the Witch all most obviously have feline traits) Predators (Again, the Beast) Mouths (The Shifting Mound covers her vessels' eyes so that only their mouth is visible) Knives (The Pristine Blade, the Razor) Authority (Most obviously represented as being a princess, but because of her power many routes have her be the one in control as stated above) Confidence (Her self-assurance doesn't falter in any route, except maybe the Damsel arguably) Innate strength (Look at nearly any route, really) Roots/Vines (The Witch's cabin made of roots, the Wild, an association with growth in general) Hearts (The Shifting Mound calling vessels 'hearts', needing to stab her in the heart, the Wild and the Fury's exposed hearts) Numbness (The Prisoner and Drowned Grey, but also a numbness and non-reaction to pain in every route) Doors (The cabin (her heart) has the door emphasized most of all as either an impassible barrier or a gateway to new beginnings) Substance (Even as a ghost, she is tangible (most of the time), is physically larger) Truth (The only time she ever attempts to lie she is horrible at it. She does not hide things from the Hero) Many becoming one (The Shifting Mound's true form is many bodies for one person)
