battle couples has gotta be one of my favorite tropes though. The “you got me?” “Yeah, I got you.” The kiss for good luck. Fighting alongside each other for so long they know every strength and weakness. The dichotomy of being fucking terrifying to their enemies, but so soft with each other. When one is in danger and the other goes feral, protects them at any cost. When everything is over and done, it’s all “let me see where you’re hurt,” and washing off the dirt and blood.

Mostly a test since I've never subbed something without a transcript before. I wanted to do a bit more of the video but there was a lot I couldn't hear right and I got lazy... but I really like the part where they say they both see Bundorio and Byundi as childhood friends 😢❤️ (also the part where miss Rica Matsumoto says she was told Bundorio couldn't hear Byundi praising him in episode 19 but she decided he was listening anyway (I think? That's what they were talking about??))

Something important about Kuuga’s message of non-violence that I found different from many other stories preaching a similar moral is that it never says that you should never ever do it. I think many stories fall into this trap: that because violence is bad, it’s something you shouldn’t do and that it causes bad things. But Kuuga posits violence as a necessary evil in some cases – Kuuga, after all, is fighting off a murderous evil because he has no choice. What form the message takes is, instead, that while you may need to fight sometimes there is no glory in it. There is nothing good about having to fight, even if it’s for an important cause. Violence in and of itself is not something that is noble, or heroic, or something to be looked up to – at best it is a necessity, and one that leaves severe mental scars on the one forced to fight that battle. It’s a very brave message to send for a kid’s TV show but it’s a distinction from other stories that I feel is hugely important.
