The Power to Cheat Death and “The Rise of Skywalker”
Yet another speculation and reflection post! Ok, so hear me out.
So, it has been confirmed that Palpatine is coming back by JJ in an interview, so here goes more spec based on leaks and all of this.
1) Palpatine is the threat. There have been many leaks that state that there will be a threat in TROS. This threat is what ultimately makes Kylo and Rey come back together. So, the nature of that threat is now clear : the supposed dead emperor is back, Palpatine, the “greatest evil” in the galaxy. We all know the famous line that Palpy gives Anakin, that there is a possibility to cheat death. It seems old Palpy knew what he was talking about!
2) Jakku and the Laboratory. We know that Palpatine has been researching the “sources of the dark side” in the unknown and uncharted regions with a Laboratory on Jakku. It is supposed that the Knights of Ren come back to Kylo Ren with the Red Troopers to tell him something. At this point, it’s not clear if they are going to side with him or not. But what is clear is that Palpatine had something calling him from the Beyond, and I believe that something is in the beyond, where the KOR have been, which will explain how Palpatine could cheat death. It has also been stated that Palpatine killed Padmé, who was in perfect health condition at the time she gave birth.
3) We also know that Luke had a compass that was Palpatine’s before…we actually see that compass in TLJ. It was in possession of Ben Solo and then we see it in Luke’s hut.
4) Palpatine and Rey. We also know that Rey grew up on Jakku and I believe that there is a strong link now between the fact she grew up there and her Force powers. If Palpatine has the power to cheat death, has Palpatine also “created Rey” by influencing the Force again, as he did when manipulating the Force to create Anakin?
I think will understand why Rey is so damn strong with the Force and we might have a mighty plot twist here! JJ said there is more to Rey’s parentage than just the “nobody” parents. But her having nobody parents and her being the legacy of the dark side would be amazing narratively because it would make a perfect mirror of Kylo, her equal:
Kylo came from a legacy family, from the light (”you cannot deny the truth that is your family”), but falls to the dark side.
Rey came from a nobody family but stems from the darkside, although she’s pure Light.
Yin/Yang Symbolism is so strong there has to be something more to this.
5) The Rise of Skywalker makes sense if you look at the three trilogies’ narrative, especially if you consider the PT and the ST being mirrors.
Anakin Skywalker was created by Palpatine and manipulated to be a servant, falling to the dark side and losing the love of his life. Palpatine destroyed the Skywalker in Anakin, and made him Vader.
Kylo “Organa-Solo-Skywalker”, the heir of Anakin Skywalker, will need to rise in order for his family to heal the wound created by Palpatine, by making the biggest threat in the galaxy disappear for good.
In order for the Greek tragedy that was the PT to resolve itself, Kylo has to resolve the galaxy’s biggest problem and heal his whole family’s heritage. I believe that this can only be done if the Force is balanced, that is, with Rey’s help. I FORESEE ANOTHER JOIN ME SCENE!
6) What is the MacGuffin? It has been stated by Makingstarwars.net that there is a MacGuffin that our heroes are looking for. Since there is a shot of the Death Star, maybe there is an object there that our heroes need to find in order to defeat Palpy? I believe that maybe this has to do with what the Oracle that has been leaked on Reddit has to do. Is has been leaked that Kylo will go and see a type of Spider Creature, an Oracle, on a swamp planet. Maybe the MacGuffin is not a weapon: maybe it is a power to cheat death? Because how can you defeat Palpatine if he was already dead but came back?
I could speculate Kylo is looking for the MacGuffin in these scenes:
7) It is therefore possible that Kylo and Rey go on a quest together to find answers and a power big enough to cheat death. It would be fucking insane if one of them were to die in the end….for Kylo to die in a sacrifice only to come back in an epilogue. (I’m sure @postedbygaslight will love this idea!). Since K. Kennedy has stated that the end is hopeful, I do NOT believe they will kill Kylo…completely! He may die in the end but come back because he’s learned the power to cheat death.
I’m thinking…an ending where Rey joins Kylo on Tatooine after everybody thinks he’s dead. This would truly be the “Rise of Skywalker”
