“…”
A pause to answer him when it comes to protection. As far as he was away, they had plenty of means to be able to find him and end it all in mere seconds. If they were feeling generous. As much as he wants to keep living, as much as he understood how helpful heroes were, they can’t save everyone… and he doubts they have much of an incentive to keep him around other than information.
“You don’t have to. I know what I’ve done.”
And there was no going back from it.
Falling silent once more, he contemplates on which question was easier to answer.
There was hesitancy to bring his family into this. Though they themselves weren’t active members, they did encourage him to join their group to make a point. His parents established the fact that heroes were never what they actually were, and they were only there for their own selfish desires. Money, power, whatever it was to get their fifteen minutes of fame, regardless of who lived, died, or were ruined by their destructive power.
He chooses to answer the latter first.
The nervous feeling would never go away. Not as long as he knows he’ll feel the looks he’ll receive by everyone soon enough. He takes a deep breath, shaky, but able to make his voice not waver so much.
“A lot of it was from me. The USJ incident though… they didn’t tell me they were going to target that day. A lot of it is information being given to them… but not usually the other way around. Other than that, it was small things like class schedules, where All Might was during certain times of the day. Which was… harder than anticipated. I told them about how the press was going wild and just always at the gate…”
He continues to confess to a few other things, but pauses when he thinks about the forest arc. “…I didn’t think they would take Bakugou. I mentioned a few things about him but… I told them there was no way he can be a villain. He can act like one but… *sigh* he’s a hero through and through.”
“… as for how and why I joined… a scout recruited me a long time ago. He’s still with them I think, but he hasn’t been around for a while. I grew up where heroes weren’t as selfless as TV and the people I met here were. Heroes who… ruined my family, caused the death of my friends because of collateral damage… and they never came to amend. For heroes they’re… they’re villains too. ”
In a rare moment of silence, Hizashi merely hummed in response to the information being given. They would have to reorganize student and teacher schedules to make sure the League couldn’t plan anything out around it. Shaking up the schedule would give Kaminari more protection anyway, as his schedule being unpredictable would prevent the League from retaliating. UA would need to figure out a way to subtly see if any other students were compromised. If the League were smart, having more than one spy would be for the best. Though, maybe they would get lucky with it just being Kaminari.
After that, there would be a need to plan out some sort of counter. Damage control of changing the schedules and trying to find any other holes in their defenses was all well and good, but if all they did was defend, the League would never be defeated. The idea of using Kaminari to strike back again the League flickered through Hizashi’s mind, but he dismissed it for now. It wouldn’t be his responsibility to plan that out. Nezu would come up with a better plan of attack than he could. Hizashi was good at the social intelligences, not as much with planning and tactics.
Hizashi didn’t interrupt, didn’t even try. It would be better to let Kaminari speak his peace. Watching Kaminari would give him a chance to fully analyze and assess Kaminari’s true intentions. He seemed to be telling the truth. Hizashi could appreciate that. It was good to know Kaminari didn’t intend for things to go so far or to be as bad.
Though... intentions weren’t everything. Intentions wouldn’t fix anything.
“Nezu will want names and quirks of anyone you can give. As many details as you can remember or think of.” Hizashi didn’t care for the details right then anyway. He just wanted Kaminari to be prepared.
At the mention of heroes being villains, Hizashi didn’t have much to say. His hands flexed and he willed himself to avoid fidgeting too much. The childish urge to shake Kaminari and demand to know how the villains purposefully murdering people was better than a few bad heroes making bad choices. Hizashi had always looked up to heroes. He’d always wanted to be one. He’d always believed in them. Sure, becoming one, Hizashi knew there were bad eggs. Some heroes didn’t actually care, but all villains didn’t care.
Kind of. Cause... well if all villains didn’t care, Kaminari wouldn’t have been trying to be better. After all, Kaminari was a villain in his own right, wasn’t he? It was complicated. It was messy. For the first time in over a decade, Hizashi wished he hadn’t given up some of his worse stress relievers because he needed anything to calm the tidal waves of emotions in his chest.
There was no way to fix it though, so Hizashi let out another silent sigh before smiling once more. “Yeah, kid, the world isn’t all black and white, but you’re doing the right thing here and now. It counts for something and I’m happy to show you that even if there are a few bad heroes, there are a lot better of ones around.”
