Your Troy (2004) opinions intrigue me. I have to ask, what other maligned movies do you love? To me, Troy always sat with The 300 (2006) and Beowulf (2007) which are both objectively terrible movies.

listen… you’re NOT wrong. it’s very of its time.

the thing is i used to be OBSESSED with greek mythology. and one thing about me is i love to analyse different interpretations of the same text. so while i do think troy is an entertaining action movie, it’s first and foremost an adaptation of the iliad to me. and as such it says so much about the era in which it was made. it’s fascinating.

also i genuinely do think the casting choices were immaculate (orlando bloom is a very punchable paris) and the costumes… god i love them.

with that said, i can’t say it’s a GOOD movie. it makes me laugh when it’s not supposed to. it frustrates me to no end. but it also genuinely does move me for about… ten minutes or so.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION i don’t really have a lot of others. i did enjoy alexander (2004) for very similar reasons, but i don’t feel as strongly about it.

i will die on the hill that troy (2004) is a great movie. it may not be good. but it’s great.

also the theatrical cut is too long (163min) but the director’s cut is the perfect length (196min).
