TDK AD
The TDK AD series was positioned as a high-quality consumer cassette: better than entry-level ferric tapes, but below premium audiophile lines like TDK SA (Type II) or MA (Metal).
• Introduced: Late 1970s
• Peak popularity: Early–mid 1980s
• Manufactured: Primarily in Japan, later in other regions as cassette production globalized
The Glancy Motor Hotel opened in 1950.
It was condemned and abandoned in 2019.
At its peak, it had all the features of a midcentury motel including an eye-catching sign, colorful panels, aluminum umbrellas and an oversized porte cochère.
When I first posted about it in 2021, there were possible plans to save and restore the property. These plans failed. Unfortunately, like many Route 66 motels, it was demolished.

The Dream is dead. No, really.
The Dream was a drive-in restaurant, movie theater and roller rink that operated from 1940 until it was abandoned in 2008. Today - like almost every other business I’ve shared on this page - it’s been forgotten and left collapsing in on itself.
The Dream did well financially until the 1970s when business started to slow. At this time, the movie theater (which yes, was an outdoor theater) started playing X-rated films to keep customers coming. I can’t imagine that went over well with locals.
The movie screens are long gone and the restaurant is caving in but somehow, the roller rink doesn’t look half bad. Located in New Church, Virginia. Sources 1 + 2
