This is a long unrelated post, I haven't been posting because I've been going through a metamorphosis of sorts, and considering that like 99% of Tumblr is mentally and physically unwell I wanna share all the things Ive learned.
Some of these are kinda obvious but I still wanna tell them to emphasize that hey! These tips are actually a lot more helpful and low-key more IMPORTANT then people take them for.
Eat 3 meals a day and eat all your essential food groups every meal, or at bare minimum eat 3 out of the 5. All your plates should have a filling variety because guess what! Vitamin deficiencies are real! You may have one without even knowing! Most Americans don't eat enough fiber, iron, and vitamin D (I stress this to everyone I'm around because I had a vitamin D deficiency and when I finally got medication for it omg my mind cleared up and I became a completely new and improved person) (Note: if you're working out eat accordingly focusing on protein, fiber, and carbs.) (Second Note: STAY HYDRATED)
Sleep 8 hours a night. I know it can either be tempting to stay up or difficult to go to sleep but you have to build healthy sleep habits. Your brain literally EATS ITSELF if not given enough sleep.
Consider getting into both exercise and yoga, I know that it sounds crazy and difficult but if you're already sleeping and eating well then you're already capable of some bare minimum exercise. You don't have to do anything crazy for amazing benefits (benefits that help you both mentally and physically), I personally do 30 minutes of Just Dance with a robe on and yoga in bed, you can look that stuff up on YouTube and doing both has worked wonders for me!
Consider getting rid of coffee and energy drinks. I know I know I love coffee as much as the next guy! but omg those drinks do way more harm than good! If you need a caffeine boost in the morning start drinking black and/or green tea instead, with a squeeze of something like lemon or orange to increase flavor and benefit. (And if you are highly dependent on caffeine then again... Please fix your sleep schedule)
You and your nervous system are getting too dependent on your phone? Try doing this exercise of simply closing your eyes and being off your phone for just one minute, it will help train your nervous system to realize your safe without the dopamine hits from your phone and that you can live without it.
Besides hobbies in general, start making journaling a hobby of yours! You can write thoughts, reflections, vents, manifestations, ideas, anything and everything! It's a great thing for the mind and a helpful way to recognize patterns you may have in your mindset and ways of thinking
If hygiene is difficult for you (because believe me even at my big age it's still difficult for me) keep reminders by your bedside to remind yourself to get clean. For example, I keep my toothbrush and toothpaste nearby around my nightstand so I can remember to brush when I need to.
If you're someone reading this and at an all time mental low or are susceptible to mental lows, then there are plenty of things you can do in your bed instead of rotting away in it. I mentioned journaling and yoga like I said, but there's also getting dry shampoo and body wipes for days you don't wanna shower, or having a thing of snacks when you have a poor appetite. Essentially make a sort of "first aid kit" of items that will help you get by when you're in a depressive state.
I could go on and on and the science of everything, but that would make this post wayyy too long. I hope this doesn't seem like a "trust me bro" sort of post because I've learned all these things the hard way and I've done them and omg! They work!
Hopefully you learn a lot from this post, but if not then at least promise you'll do #1 and #2 because you'd be real surprised how fucked up y'all brains and body's get because of the fact you're not doing the bare minimum to take care of them
