I’m over here thinking about this from the strictly monetary perspective of a studio like Sunrise:

You’ve got the 25th anniversary of Inuyasha around the corner, a sequel for a universe you can’t change too much (hence why you’re using original next gen kids), but you knoooow what’s really drawing people are your OG favorites, the parents.

You’re not gonna kill them off, cuz that would kill your series and estrange your core audience.

What you can do however, is tease them.

Talk about them, mention them, flashback to them maybe, have them be the goal: the kids are trying to find them, trying to reunite with them. You gotta keep watching till the end to see your original series faves.

THATS why InuKag aren’t with their daughter.

They’re not dead. They’re victims of plot convenience.

Also, remember, Rumiko isn’t writing this, she just designed the characters. At the end of the day, this is still her story universe, and Sunrise has to put everything back where they found it once they’re done playing.

I doubt they have the power to murder anyone.
