I love this story. So C-51 was crazy bad. All the experts went to committee and said there had to be these changes. Instead of listening to them, they realized that the polls were against and made the same changes. There is pros and cons here. Pro: The government listened to the people. Con: The government ignored all experts and only did what they said because it hurt their chance of re-election.
This is why it’s so important to be loud on social media about these issues, to protest and to support parties that oppose such legislation.
All this changed public opinion. Politicians don’t have to listen to experts but they can’t ignore the public when doing so could cost them getting elected again.
This isn’t over and we need to keep pushing against bad bills like this one.
so i wanted to make a collection of things for personal reference and i figured i’d just make it into a masterpost bc maybe some other people could use it so yeah (please ignore the shitty little “graphic” thing i rushed im sorry)

Anita Sarkeesian “What I Couldn’t Say” Speech Lays Bare What Two Years Of Endless Abuse Does To You
Watch this.
Watch this.
This is so important. Thank you, so much, Anita.
I’ve seen so many women who I’m friends with have to start doing what Anita is talking about here, and it’s heartbreaking.
I actually cried a little watching this. Please do give it a watch if you can. If you are an opinionated woman on the internet then you will relate to this.
I’m going to make a video in response to this speech by Anita, because it’s really touched something in me. I just know that in the future we’ll look back and all know Anita’s name. She may face harassment and abuse now, but she’ll be remembered for all the hard work she’s done long long after she’s gone. She’s the sort of woman I aspire to be like, and one of those women you read about in history books. Courageous, smart, kind, opinionated. She never backs down.
I personally see Anita as something of a heroine. What an amazing amazing woman.
The very first time we encounter Dong Nguyen, one of several hotly debated characters in Tina Fey’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, he has just introduced himself to Kimmy in their GED class. And, as surely happens to Dong all the time, ever since he immigrated to New York from Vietnam, she’s stifling a giggle over his name.
For a lot of viewers, including a lot of Asian-American ones, the traits that make Dong such a classic Fey-sian misfit also make him a dull, even infuriating Asian stereotype: his thickly accented, broken English; his gig delivering Chinese food by bike; his aptitude for math; his deportation-anxiety storyline. So which is it: Does Dong push back against Asian stereotypes, or does he just prop them up?
Why It’s So Hard For Us To Agree About Dong From ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’

Things to remember when being intimate with a partner and you’re nervous: Girls have rolls. Guys have rolls. Girls have stretch marks. Guys have stretch marks. Girls have pubic hair. Guys have pubic hair. Girls are insecure. Guys are insecure. Sex is awkward sometimes. It’s important to tell your partner what feels good and what doesn’t. It’s okay to laugh when things aren’t going as planned. We’re all just humans trying to do the do and it’s okay to be nervous.

Synonyms are weird because if you invite someone to your cottage in the forest that just sounds nice and cozy, but if I invite you to my cabin in the woods you’re going to die.
