This line from Hiruzen is brief but it says so much about the way Konoha operates. In this panel, Naruto is 12, but because he graduated from the academy and earned his headband, by Konoha standards he is now an adult. Following this logic that means that Itachi, the Sannin, and Kakashi, who graduated at ages 7, 6, and 5 respectively, would have also been regarded as adults. I don't think I need to explain why that's fucked up.

But what makes it worse is that it reminds me of another scene:

Kawarama Senju was only 7 when he died, but being a Shinobi meant Butsuma and the other adult ninjas viewed him as an adult. Hashirama and Madara formed Konoha in part to stop this attitude because they'd seen how badly it impacted their own families...but it took relatively little time for this practice to return, enforced by one of Hashirama's followers no less.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

We are delighted to inform that we're back again with the newest edition of the Itachi Week. After two consecutive years of celebrating Itachi, this year, we expect the same enthusiasm and love for him.

WHAT is “Itachi Week”?

“Itachi Week” is a one-week-long event in appreciation of Itachi Uchiha from Naruto. Your mission is to create, while ours is to reblog and share your Itachi fan content with the world. Each day has also been assigned a specific prompt, though they are intended as inspiration, not as instructions.

WHEN is Itachi Week?

Character celebration weeks are held around the time of their birthdays. Since Itachi's canonical birthday is June 9th, our event will run June 3rd-June 9th, 2026.

HOW can you participate?

All Itachi fans are welcome to participate! No sign-ups required. Certain accounts may get blocked and banned due to transgressive behavior and are not eligible to participate (please refer to our rules).

We have accounts on Tumblr and Bluesky. Simply post whatever you want to share and make sure to tag or notify us, and if you'd like, submit your fanfics to our AO3 Collection. Our Rules & Guides should help with the specifics of the submission process.
