also kept using the term 'dreads' for locs even after multiple reminders about the more respectful name

By saying just that 😐 what else do you need to say? Why do you need to put it any "better"? "Black is an identity, you can just say it, and considering you want to use their locs as a look, you should at least be willing to be respectful about both" 😐

Especially if he's treating his own HALF BROTHER like his Blackness is something that needs to be toed around! That suggests there's some OTHER problems going on! 😐 I feel bad for the brother.

Personally, I don't have an issue calling them dreads, cuz thats what me and my family (including members who wear dreads) referred them as. And a lot of members are Panamanian, that came from the islands. I grew up on the idea that "dreads" held spirital power to it. And my aunties and uncles would wear those dreads proudly to work

But if an individual doesn't want their locs referred to as dreads, they are valid to feel that way too. Summn's video explains more in depth that some languages do avoid saying certain words and phrases as they carry meaning and energy to them. Like they won't say "last night" because they dont want there to be a "Last Night" and the energy that comes with it
