I’m a damsel, I’m in distress, I can handle this. Have a nice day. Hercules (1997)
June 11, 1456 | Birth of Anne Neville, Queen Consort of England
June 11, 1456 - Warwick Castle, England - Anne Neville was born to Countess of Warwick Anne de Beauchamp and Earl of Warwick Richard Neville. She would be their second daughter and last child. Anne went from being born a daughter of the most powerful Lord in England to a key player during the period of English history that became known as The Wars of the Roses. Born a Yorkish, her loyalties changed hands when her father broke from the Yorkish King Edward IV and married her to King Henry VI’s son and heir, Prince of Wales Edward of Lancaster. Her life as Princess of Wales was short lived with the Princes’ and Henry VI’s deaths which brought her back into Yorkish standing. Legend has it that she became a kitchen-maid for a short stint while her brother-in-law George Duke of Clarence hid her so that she would not be able to marry his brother Richard, Duke of Gloucester with whom she had been betrothed to as a child. Despite some struggles, Anne and Richard were married and she became his Duchess before becoming his Queen and Queen Consort of England. Anne had only one child, Edward of Middleham who died almost a year prior to her. Anne died at the age of 28, from a wasting disease during a total eclipse of the sun. King Richard III, Anne’s husband died five months later at the Battle of Bosworth Field marking an end to The Wars of the Roses. Not much information has survived concerning Anne and in many ways she is a Queen hidden in the shadows of history…

TUDOR WEEK 2021 | DAY 1
Favourite Tudor Monarch: Mary I.
This morning my chamberlain came and informed me that he had received a letter from Sir William Paulet, controller of your House, to the effect that I should remove at once to Hertford Castle. I desired to see the letter, in which was written "the Lady Mary, the King's daughter," leaving out the name of Princess. Marvelled at this, thinking your Grace was not privy to it, not doubting but you take me for your lawful daughter, born in true matrimony. If I agreed to the contrary I should offend God; in all other things you shall find me an obedient daughter.
[Mary to her father, Henry VIII, 2 October 1533.]
It was on this day in British history, 6 July 1553, that King Edward VI died at age 15. Following his death, controversy arose as to his successor. Edward had backed the Protestant Lady Jane Grey while his opposition stood behind Edward’s Catholic sister, Lady Mary.
