Moving to a new blog.

This blog is officially dead and it'll stay up and unchanged in tribute to my baby boy. It's been a hard few months, but I'm creating a new fishblr centered blog, @bthebettababe.

I'm so sorry baby boy. I didn't expect to find you gone when I woke up this morning.

I will miss you so, so much. I will never forget the two years (and one month) we had together.

I hope you're feeling better wherever you are.

You're buried under the bluebells near the lilac bush, and when spring comes you'll be part of that beauty.

I love you so, so, so much.

Help Please?

So, Pancake was still enough for me to check over his fins today while he ate, and I found something odd. I’m... not quite sure what it is. I’ll be putting more of a description and pictures under a cut so nobody has to see them if they don’t want to, but a second opinion would be much appreciated!

Alrighty. First thing’s first, here’s a picture of the wound(?).

It isn’t as dark as it looks in the picture, but it is grey-ish. Now normally I would say finrot, but the whole fuzzy looking edges has me worried that it might be a fungal infection. I will mention that the wound also used to be a sort of growth. I’d noticed it a few months ago, and since Pancake is getting up there in terms of the Betta Fish lifespan, I assumed it was a small tumor. It looked like these right here, just bigger and on the top edge of his fin..

Now part of me is wondering if it was a cyst of some kind that burst and got infected, thus causing either finrot or some sort of fungal infection.

Anyway, he’s still eating well-- though that might be because I’ve been feeding him in a smaller container with tweezers since his eyesight isn’t so good anymore. He’s breathing pretty hard, but he’s still swimming around in short bursts (basically hopping from leaf to leaf on his plants).

I’m looking up different medications for fungal infections and more severe finrot, so if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear what has or hasn’t worked for you. I just wanted to see if anyone had a more solid idea of what might be going on than I do at the moment, as I don’t want to stress my poor baby’s system with the wrong treatment.

Brought a new little friend home today!

He..doesn’t seem like he’ll be the sharpest tool in the shed hahaha

I love him so much already. He’s just exploring all around, trying to eat everything. While he doesn’t have much color right now, his tail does have a little bit of iridescent blue. I can’t wait to see what,9”94 he turns!

finally posting my female betta mahachaiensis! her name is miku and shes my sweet little lady and i love her so much. she lives in my brackish 20 long with the dancena ricefish (and is super hard to get good pics of because of the relatively low lighting on this tank so 2 of these pics are from like a month ago lol)

Pancake has been having trouble getting around lately, likely because of his age and long fins, so after a few weeks of observation I made the decision to transfer him back to a smaller tank.

I ended up going with a bare bottom to help with cleaning since he's still having some issues with finding his food before it sinks.

I also took the opportunity to decorate his tank for the holiday season! It'll be our third holiday season together!

Happy 2nd Gotcha Day Pancake!

I can't believe it's been two years! Time has flown by!

I'm in my junior year of college, and I've had you in my life since my first semester of freshman year. You've seen me through my first days of nursing classes, my long nights working on essays, all of my zoom classes when the world shut down, and even my very first day of clinicals!

We've had a rough time of it lately, what with your sight getting worse, but you're a trooper! You even put up with my hovering and the feeding tweezers without much of a fuss.

I am so, so grateful to have you with me in this big, confusing world. When everything gets to be too much, I know I can sit down and watch you swim around and quiet my mind for a time.

You are the light of my life baby boy! I don't know what I'd do without your silly little face watching me go about my days. And even if you hate the camera, you still let me take my pictures.

Things aquarists think during a water test/change:

- please let the parameters be stable.

- water is everywhere oh god

- how is there this much sand in a tube.

- how is water this heavy

- am I using this right?

- there is more water on me than in the aquarium.

- why isn’t the gravel vaccuum working?

- FISH NO DON’T CHASE THE SIPHON

- did I vaccuum a shrimp by accident?
