If you can foster a pet they will find a way to get it to you if you live in California, Oregon, or Arizona, so don’t worry about how to get there - this is a foster cat delivery situation.

So if you think you can foster a cat, please check it out. These cats will be put down if places aren’t found for them by March 25. That’s less than 10 days to find places for 34 cats.

I really hate the whole “Don’t forget! :) Your life is miserable! And if you can step away from your oppression to do fun things and be happy, it means you’re actually privileged lmao because if you really WERE one of us, your life would be completely saturated in misery and righteous hatred for The Man” attitude on Tumblr.

Like, look. I will literally never be able to step away from being disabled, it’s a permanent part of my life. I’ve had to work around it. I’m still learning ways to do that. I’m still trying to adjust to my new normal. Nor will I ever be able to step away from the other little marks Tumblr would use to weigh me on the Oppression Scale—But I’m still allowed to be happy in the face of all that stands in my way. I’m allowed to thrive. That’s not privilege. That’s just me living my life and doing my very best.

I think it’s the flipside of suicide contagion.

There’s this idea that… if we’re happy, then things can’t really be that bad. Therefore, if we’re happy, we’re validating oppression.

I’ve been trying to write about this. It’s hard.

What it comes down to is kind of the same thing as the oppression in the first place. We cannot, should not be happy.

And if you’re telling me - explicitly or implicitly - that I cannot and should not be happy, it doesn’t matter if you’re doing that as an act of systemic oppression or in the context of fighting that oppression. You’re still telling someone else, someone who has to fight oppression just to live a life, that they can’t and shouldn’t be happy.

Being happy in the face of oppression has become such a radical act, it is now radical even in the eyes of those who are nominally on our side.
