Revelation 12

While I’ve always said I would study the book of Revelation, I only recently discovered this beautiful passage:

The woman (representing God’s people) is going to give birth to the Messiah. The dragon (Satan) waits to devour this child but Jesus is taken up to heaven to rule. Satan is thrown down to earth. He then turns to the woman to persecute and try to destroy her. However, God gives the woman wings, provides for her, and saves her from destruction.

In this passage, we see that Satan is dangerous. We also see that God is more powerful and has equipped His people. And we know that Satan will be destroyed “by the blood of the Lamb and the word of [our] testimony.”

This passage reminds me of the sovereign plan of God through Jesus Christ. It reminds me to be wary of the devil and fight against sin. It encourages me to be part of the testimony of our Lord Jesus Christ that will overcome all one day.

Stop worrying about how you feel. You lied, you cheated, you lusted, you gorged. You snapped, you hated, you cussed, you masturbated. You killed, you manipulated, you rejected or ignored. You sinned. God doesn’t want just half of your heart. God doesn’t want you to talk to Him only when you’re in the mood to do so. God wants all of you. He wants you when you’re sinless and when you’re sinful. He wants you on the days when you’re strong and on the days when you relapse. He doesn’t want just your beautiful parts, He wants everything. Stop saying excuses. Stop listening to the devil. Stop thinking you can’t “go to God” because you feel you’re too unclean, ugly, or dirty. Stop worrying about how you feel because it’s not about you. Run to Him, even if you’d rather be dormant. Go to Him even if you’d rather hide in your guilt. Ignore your laziness, embarrassment, and shame and go spend some time with the One who died for every dirty thing you think keeps Him away.

How beautiful it is to find someone who not only accepts who I am, but celebrates the things that have made me who I am. We find joy in being seen, to be known is what our hearts long for. How wonderful, to have someone who knows us, and extends the hand of promise and future growth. That is fuel for our souls, when someone makes the effort to love you for you.

I know sometimes it’s still hard to let me see you in all your cracked perfection, but please know: whether it’s the days you burn more brilliant than the sun or the nights you collapse into my lap your body broken into a thousand questions, you are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. I will love you when you are a still day. I will love you when you are a hurricane.
