At the anon who's scared to start lessons at 19, i did! My college lets us take lessons for credit and ive been doing it for a year now! My cello teacher is patient and kind and ive been making great progress. I too had to stop lessons and I stopped in elementary school because my family was poor. So this is a lifetime dream being fulfilled! I say go for it, it'll be so worth in in the future when you're able to play songs on cello!

Thanks so much for sharing! I love late starters bc a lot of them have this wonderful passion that comes from choosing to play cello during their adult life instead of having always played.

I played Cello for literally one year in middle school, but unfortunately had to stop due to lack of resources when I moved, I’m 19 years old now and want to learn, but I’m kind of embarrassed and discouraged because so many people act like you have to start young. Will a teacher still teach me and take me serious with teaching me? Do you have any tips for someone who may just start learning about music?

you absolutely do not have to start young. That idea is very toxic in the classical music world. Starting at 19 is great! There are soooo many people in Cellohio (the cello ensemble at OSU) that started cello 1 or 2 years ago and have been taking lessons with older cello majors. 

If you find a good teacher, yes. If you’re in college, look into taking cello lessons from someone in the music department. We’re all looking for people to teach! 

Enjoy yourself. it’s a lot of frustration, but it’s so worth it once you learn a piece well or have a good performance.

I’m Back!

after a crazy few months, a breakup, almost a full school year of college, I’m  making this blog active again
