Hi! I think probably the latter

Demigods (in this au), while holding more power and living far longer than the average mortal, are still quite small compared to the gods and will indeed die one day.

Timeline of events for demigodpoke (subject to change)

gains more inventory slots and is like SWEET POST-GAME UPGRADE YEAHH (does not think anything of it)

takes the week off to go back home, then packs to move to the grove so they can keep being the godpoke

realizes oh crap i have no face. continues as normal and goes back to the grove and never tells anyone about their predicament because how the hell are they gonna do that fdhjsdsfhj and also is stuck in the cosplay forever

and then a few years later they finally go talk to the gods about it (the mitternaught comic)

States of Being

We were trying to explain to some friends earlier that saying "this person is in front" and "this person is co-conscious" isn't always the most useful phrasing for us because either of those terms can mean a lot of different things. We have our own words that we like to use to describe where folks can be in relation to our awareness.

The states on this chart are still a bit of a simplification, as we flow between them and it's more of a spectrum than a discrete set, but they're close enough to the actual language that we use to do the job.
