Fine, Fine
John tried very hard not to be irritated. Well, it wasn’t just that. He was actually a bit amused, if not happy. It was always better to not have Sherlock in a mood, though moods tended to be contagious. When Sherlock was bored, he tended to be ill-tempered (for obvious reasons), or pleased (probably from the sheer effect of it). Still, the idea was irritating, if not inconvenient. But give and take, he supposed.
He tapped his fingers on his lap as he heard the address. Well, at least there would probably be food at the end. At the very least, he could look forward to that, especially if he lost.
He looked over at the other. “Sounds fair enough.” He said, giving a short nod.
Sherlock grinned and tipped his head back, letting it loll against the head-rest. It wasn't much of a game, really; it was little better than a child's picture book, one of the scavenger hunt ones. Better than languishing in the flat all night, though, bored and unable to do anything to combat it. And listening to the rustle of John flipping papers to boot - a softer and more irritating noise he'd rarely ever heard.
"As fair as possible given respective observational ability," he said absently, looking out the corner of his eye to the streets outside the window. "I can't make it much more even than that." A challenging look crossed his face, eyes widening and an eyebrow lifting. "Besides, you were getting bored as well. I could see it."

John allowed the silence to come between them for those few minutes, choosing to try and calm himself a bit more. He could still feel his heart race, feel his hands shaking. Christ, he’d really had a scare. When he heard Sherock speak again, John looked up at Sherlock. “Just a bit.” He said. “Doesn’t mean I had to shout. It was a bit…extreme.” He added and sighed. “You can handle yourself, I know that. I just…”
Sherlock shrugged and turned away, going to one of the bookshelves and starting to move some books around at random. It was a better option than continuing to stand there, risking something slipping through in his expression - bit not good to be elated at how much John worried over him and his own capacity to frighten the doctor because of that concern, probably. "Yes, well, you also know how good I am at getting myself into...sticky spots," he said off-handedly. "You can stop apologising. It's fine; I'm accustomed to being shouted at, hardly unusual."

Sitting in patient silence as he explained it all to her, Molly did her best to see everything and how he put it together. From what she saw, he did not ever see one thing that would lead to an answer, but in fact many things that when added together would tell him what he needed to know. She had never tried this hard before to understand how he came to the answers that he did. “I think I see it. It’s just so much to take in. I could get there eventually, but never as quickly as you do.”
It was a simple thing for her to admit, as she knew that it was true. She would never be as good as Sherlock Holmes was. At least three lifetimes would be needed to come close to being as good as he was. “How long have you been doing this? Or were you always this good at it?”
A nostalgic look crossed Sherlock's face at the question, his mouth slanting. There were entirely too many memories tied up with his practise of deduction, fond and not-fond alike. "Speed comes with practise," he said eventually, closing the folder and setting it aside. "If, every day for several years, you went into a restaurant and set yourself to distinguishing the professions of everyone around you - aside from the waitstaff, obviously - you'd get much faster." He smiled slightly, rather rueful this time. "Or called a stalker when you confirm. People will misuse terms when they're alarmed."
He winced and clutched his chest as a wave of pain hit; they were decreasing in frequency, but the way self-preservation kept him dialling down the morphine, they never got less intense. When it subsided he flicked his eyes away and went on as if it hadn't happened. "I started farther back than I can even remember," he said. "My brother began teaching me very early on...it became a game between us, whoever could extract the most details from a person or a garment or whatever. He always won," he added with a shrug. "I only realised I was improving when I started meeting other children and teachers."
If we roleplay:
1. Don’t apologize for being late/slow with replies.
2. Take all of the time you need. Days, weeks, months, doesn’t matter. Don’t put yourself under stress because of such pointless things.
3. Your personal life out of character along with your health are the most important. If you drop a thread/conversation/whatever, it’s alright. Just stay safe and take care.

John’s breathing was less erratic now, was more calm than before and his expression was slowly relaxing. “Okay.” He said, but it was another minute -after he’d sat down- before he spoke again. “Sorry, I…” He trailed off. “I’m sorry. I overreacted.”
Sherlock nodded. "Yes. You did." His voice was curt, although his expression softened after a few minutes. It was difficult to hold onto the indignation of being told he didn't give a damn - as infuriatingly blind as that was after all he'd done - when John's concern was so obvious. Like a dog, Sherlock reprimanded himself: any display of the slightest bit of care was enough to derail him. "Understandably, though. I suppose it was worrying." He mustered up a smile.

okay but Sherlock’s s3 preoccupation with people who are different not needing to feel bad and hating Magnussen for picking on people who are different and Mycroft calling Sherlock a dragon slayer
what if when he was very young Sherlock didn’t provoke the bullies himself at first but he sprung to the defense of another kid they were mocking and jeering at for looking different and he brought their wrath upon himself with it
what if kid!Sherlock tried to be a white knight and it got him shredded so he repressed it and THAT’s what we’re supposed to deduce about his heart from his becoming a detective instead of a scientist or philosopher -
because being a detective is the manifestation of those heroic impulses and it’s why he reacts so negatively to the word hero because it brought him so much grief.
