my dad's wildlife photography would do numbers on here
ok permission granted everyone look at this fat sandpiper
Researchers believe the Dixonâs whiptail has been mistakenly identified as another lizard for decades.
Why are teiids so weird
In one family we have:
a lizard that turns warm-blooded for part of the year, using the same regulatory mechanisms that mammals do. the other species in its genus does not do this.
a lizard that got rid of its males and still manages to somehow maintain genetic diversity. actually there are several species that can do this.
two lizards that replaced all of their teeth with molars
fake tooth sockets
and now this delightful cryptic species(?)
This is why they're my favorites. Monitors might be all "bone armor! iron teeth! sleek and deadly!" but every single teiid species is a complete freak and we love them for it.

Not-a-Butterfly of the day Pachythrix hampsoni
Come back tomorrow for another cute butterfly! (Source: Pachythrix hampsoni de O'Reilly QLD 4275, Australia le 8 Fév 2026 à 20:50 par Stephen Csurhes · iNaturalist)
In horrid biphobic news, I just got my gorgeous beautiful wonderful book on fabric dyeing with fungi in the middle of fucking February, when all outside is a frozen waste with nary a living plant or mushroom to be seen.
Woe is me. I want to go root around in the woods after mushrooms like a bog witch and see if I can find the ones that make wool go pretty colors.
