Taeho pulled his lips tightly together, surprised by the response he’d been given. Having grown up with Taeil as a sibling he’d learned not to expect those around him to be polite, but he still felt the female’s bluntness was too much. “I’m sorry.’ He found himself repeating. “I’ll move these.” Taeho bent down to begin picking up the offending branches.

hey guys! i have returned, and i’m safe!

i’ll start on replies and such in a few minutes once i get my cat off of me.

i know it’s not really of any relevance, i’m not expecting any of you to read what i’m about to write but it’s nice to kind of... nice to let you guys know what’s going on? especially if some countries aren’t really reporting on this stuff?

basically what happened was that there was a large 7.5 quake (although they’re saying it may have been two earthquakes at once) and since we’re a country full of fault lines we ended up being swamped with aftershocks as big as 6.1. by the time it hit 1am on monday we’d had over 800 aftershocks, and there’s a 40% chance of another big quake soon. tsunami warnings we announced not long after the first quake and a small 2 meter tsunami wave hit part of our coast. most of the cities on the coast of the island where i live on are still under a tsunami warning 18 hours after the quake.

 luckily my city wasn’t too damaged by the quake besides the power being cut off and a lot of broken stock in stores around town; but there’s a fuck ton of damage in some cities around nz (including one which was completely decimated after quakes in 2011 and was in the progress of rebuilding). one of the highways on my island has been completely cracked and is going to be closed for a long time meaning a lot of places, including my city, may face difficulty getting food shipped in and a lot of smaller communities have been completely cut off. there’s been two deaths so far which although sad, is much lower of a death toll than the 2011 quake i mentioned before where the toll was 158. 

more consequences of the quake include NCEA exams (the nz equivalent of the SATs) being cancelled and postponed all over the country, a rail line along the coast of the south island being decimated in certain parts, ferry access between the two islands being cut off, a dam breaking, and cows getting stranded on a tiny island surrounded by landslides (they’ve been saved now though!). 

the prime minister has announced that the quakes have cost us billions in damage which honestly really sucks because we still hadn’t rebuilt the city that was destroyed by the 2011 quakes. but if there’s one thing a new zealander loves it’s a tale of underdogs fighting back against something bigger than them, so we’ll push through. i’m just laughing bc we went through all this shit and now we’re getting torrential rain and flooding in some of the quake affected areas.

on a brighter note; movement in the sea bed off the east cost has reportedly created a new reef!

new zealand just had a fuck ton of severe earthquakes all around the country (including where i am) and we’ve been out of power for a few hours so i’m just letting you guys know that if i’ll be back when i’m a little less frazzled (a few hours) unless my power shuts off again.

lmao i was at work when it hit up a rly big ladder... everything fell off the shelves and smashed (i work at like... the nz equivalent of kmart or walmart) and i was more concerned w/ the fact i had to clean it up. that is my fun story!

he still wasn’t sure if his friend was alright or not, but he laughed along with him nonetheless. minho pushed his hand away when he messed up his hair, chuckling at the way he was acting. minho then shrugged, “it was the day before we left camp, so.. a few weeks? bro, i thought i was straight too.. like even now, i’m not into guys in general, but i really like him, you know? he told me how he feels by accident once, after that it was a really long story that i don’t think you’d want to hear, but the short version is, i’ve thought about it a lot and here we are.” he then took a breath, not realizing he was losing it while talking.

Taeho listened to his friend speak, guilt tightening his chest over the lack of supportiveness he’d felt upon hearing the news. He should’ve reacted with genuine excitement, not an irrational fear of being abandoned. Clutching the bottom of his t-shirt, he willed himself to stop acting like a spoilt child and be happy for this buddies. “Sounds long just hearing the abridged version. I’m glad you guys are happy, even if it means our gang is no longer a group of single bachelors.” Taeho joked, a genuine smile finding its way onto his lips. “Jinwoo’s special, so like, look after him or I’ll beat the shit out of you. And tell Jinwoo I mean the same thing to him as well-- how am I supposed to be a protective bro if both my friends are dating each other?”
