Bump in the Night|| F2F|| Iseult & Ector

Cleo had made her way to her workstation after the jolt and darkness fell over her while she was in the halls. She tried to use her laptop, but for some reason it wouldn’t turn on. After trying various pieces of her equipment it seemed that anything linked to HQ was out of commission. That was odd and dangerous. There was no way the storm did that. For once she realized perhaps something simple like a candle would be of some use. She couldn’t count how many times she’s stubbed her toe already on various objects. 

After a while of rummaging through her things she found a lighter and set off again to look through the halls. She tried to steer clear of the main halls because that where people were most likely to be and she was keeping an eye out for those who didn’t belong. 

Heading a bump come from around the corner she instinctively whipped around and in one motion had her gun pointed at the person with her lighter in the other hand to illuminate their face. Her finger ready on the trigger. Luckily she didn’t pull it once she saw who it was. “Oh it’s you?”

Memorizing the layout of HQ was endlessly useful during her recruitment days. Five years of being a Kingsman agent later, Jess’s memorization reached full capacity for the massive building. It was a skill she picked up from MI6, and really only became useful when the power went out today.

After talking to Balan earlier, Jessica decided to throw herself into more practical activities to stifle the anxiety creeping up in her chest. Like getting firewood and lighting the various fireplaces around the building, making sure the recruits had flashlights and candles, just menial tasks while Merlin and the rest got the power back.

She didn’t expect to bump into Cleo.

Jess wiggles her hands a little in an attempt to surrender, but it’s a lame attempt when she has a stack of firewood in her arms to her chin. “Yeah, it’s me.” Jess verbally shoots back. She nods to the pistol in Cleo’s hand. “Now that’s the last thing we need, somebody getting shot while there’s a blackout.”

Thunderbolt & Lightning || f2f || Noah & Jess

Onward towards the door, Noah had to find someone else, anyone else. There was something strange about the whole outage, the fact that the power hadn’t come back on yet wasn’t right. His mind was racing with possibilities, some logical, other’s not, and a few would only make sense in his building. 

The door was found, not that it was hard, Noah knew the general direction and he was able to go on to the next room. Barely though the door when something grabbed him. It was pretty quickly determined to be a someone not just having brushed against something in the darkness. This was an intentional grab. Noah moved back half a step (okay, maybe he jumped backwards) and fell into a fighting stance. Feet apart and planted firmly he readied himself.  

It was then he remembered where he was. There shouldn’t be anyone here but other agents, friendly faces. However there was the power outage and the fact that it was lasting, it could be related. Though people rarely said ‘rawr’ when trying to take you out. Noah didn’t relax though. He stared in the direction he’d felt the grab, his eyes having adjusted some to the dark, but only enough to see a shape. “Who’s there?”

He jumped and Jess heard it. And while she's endlessly surprised he didn't scream, it's still enough to send her into giggles when he calls out. Jess slinks against the wall, laughing like a schoolchild who just pushed down the class nerd into a mud puddle. Yes. Yes she may have been that child when she was young.

“It's me, Balan,” Jessica breathes out between laughs. She gets ahold of herself, still amused as she pushes up from the wall and stands slowly. “I heard you cursing and I couldn't resist.” Everything is pitch black, and her eyes aren't adjusting well to the darkness at all. There are times she wishes she was an actual cat, and right now is one of those times. She only knows where Balan is because she can hear him. “I only wish I could've seen your face.” Jess finishes jokingly.

Well, since it's dark, there's no harm to reach into her bra for her phone to light up the place a bit while the generators figure out their shit. Jess does so, pulling out the device and holding it in her hand. Her finger finds the unlock button at the top. “And God said, Let there be light, and there was...” Jess trails off on her Biblical quote. She quickly traces the edges of her phone, and yes, she had the right button. But to be sure, she mashes all the other ones along the sides.

Jess strangles the paranoia, looking up to Balan and she can see his outline now. “Guess I forgot to charge my phone last night. Does yours work?” She's fine, see, she's holding a normal conversation. She's still talking. She's not Laura yet. No need to crack Laura out of her very tight box.

Thunderbolt & Lightning || f2f || Noah & Jess

Seemed a storm was rolling in. Noah didn’t care, he was an Englishman! One who grew up near the ocean, no less. Weather? That didn’t stop anyone. Unless of course it was hotter than 24 degrees outside, that was too hot and the only course of action was to feign death. Rain though? That shouldn’t stop anyone. 

It did though. The recruits were given the day off which meant Noah, as well as others, were forced to have the day off as well. A day off didn’t sit well with the man, he was bored enough as it was. Making the best of it, Noah called home, checked in with just about everyone he could since he knew he wouldn’t be interrupted. Even did a bit of reading. 

However hunger became the over powering though and so he made his way down to the kitchen to poke his head around and see what he could rustle up to eat. Nothing looked good but did it ever when you were eating out of boredom and not hunger? He was in the middle of some mindless lap around the room, trying to decide if he really wanted to eat those biscuits or if he should just head back to his room, when everything went dark. 

Stopping where he was, giving pause for generators to kick in or the power to flicker back on. The few seconds turned into a few more and it was clear power wasn’t going to come right back. Arms out, eyes closed for a moment as he tried to remember the lay out of the kitchen, Noah moved towards what he thought was the exit. 

That’s when he smacked his leg into the cupboard door he’d left open in his quest for food. “Bloody fucking hell!” the words came out a little louder than he wanted and echoed in a way they hadn’t before but without the hum of appliances even his breathing felt louder. Blindly reaching out to close the door, Noah tried to collect himself and ignore the slight pain that came from the corner of the door making contact with his thigh.

Usually the other sex was famous for pumping iron and striving toward muscles that are too huge to be real. But Jess’s style of fighting, in order to be effective, meant working out and getting a six-pack. Underneath all her sweaters was one strong, tough cookie who could break a jaw with a well placed kick. But goddammit, her arms and thighs ache after work outs, and the only way to soothe it was with junk food. Carbs. As many carbs as she could stuff into her piehole.

Her hair is still wet from her shower after working out, the chill on her scalp crawling down her whole body as the rain pounds on the roof of HQ. Jess does everything she can to avoid driving in the rain, so killing time by getting a snack from the kitchen sounded like a lovely idea. Maybe even some hot chocolate if she can find any. Now that sounds--

And the whole building goes dark. 

For a split second, Jess freezes up. Her tired muscles tense, pain forgotten. What is happening. Why did the power go out, why.... Thunder claps again from the skies and Jess glares up at the ceiling in the darkness. Oh yeah. That. Jess sighs a bit, relaxing again and feels her way along the wall to the kitchen. The power should come back any moment. Stupid thunderstorm.

Someone inside the kitchen yells and Jess stops again. It sounded an awful lot like that psychologist, Noah. She slowly smiles then. Well, this is an opportunity that never presents itself, so Jessica is going to take advantage of it. She becomes silent, tiptoeing in the pitch black darkness until she feels the trim of the door, and squats down. As the door opens, Jessica lashes out with a hand and briefly snags Noah’s ankle.

“RAWR!” She yells, then bounces back on her toes to avoid any unwanted kicks to the face.

Anwen laughed, “Yes, I’m feeling a bit hungry. I could run into the city and pick something up, it won’t take long. Or we could make use of the kitchen. There’s no use waiting until we’re done, this could take all afternoon.”

The spy chuckles a little. “If you want something from town, I can come with you. I’m not so great at cooking, though. Everything I cook comes out burnt or bland.” Jess caps her highlighter with a click. “But if you wanna try, I’m game.”

“First of all, doesn’t look like you’re sitting much less on bed rest, Hoss.” Jessica chirps back, running her rag along her rifle again. It got nasty from the last OP, sand and dirt clogging up all the delicate parts and pieces. And no machine runs with dirt stuck in their gears. Jessica raises the barrel, now safely twisted off, making sure it’s clean down the metal tube as well. “Secondly, if you’re bored you can help me.” Not satisfied, Jessica reaches for another tool and looks up at Alistair. “Thirdly, you look like you punched a lorry again. You really got to stop trying to punch them as they’re coming at you, Alistair.”

Abraham needs towels.

It’s as simple as that, really. He needs towels, Arthur points him the way to get them, and that’s where he goes - he goes for the goddamn towels. What he does not expect on his mission to get them though is this that while grabbing one big fluffy white towel, there would be one big not-exactly-fluffy human behind it. 

This place is completely nuts.

He’d like to say he was not startled at all by the sudden discovery - but he is. There’s a moment of shock in which he simply stares at Jessica, trying to understand 1. how in the world did she get there, 2. how long has she been there already, and 3; just WHY, GOD, WHY. But he’s so shocked that instead of asking, he stares. He stares hard for a long moment, trying to decide the best course of action in this situation. He’s already gotten his towels. He could just close the closet’s door and leave. Pretend he didn’t just find a grown up woman hiding behind towels inside of a closet like a overgrown cat. He almost does it. It’s tempting - he can just pretend this never happened. He can pretend this place is not as crazy as it actually is. He can just go on being a normal person a little longer.

But he can’t.

There’s a woman hiding inside the closet and this could be the most complex metaphor for his life he’s ever come across. Abraham decides to stay and take a deep breath. He needs to know now. It’s a burning need on the back of his head. “Evening, Ector.” He replies calmly, frowning slightly. “I’d like to believe there’s a very good reason for you being there, but I honestly can’t come up with any at the top of my head. Can you please, enlighten me?” 

He’s talking to a woman inside a closet. 

What even is his life now.

She startled him. She doesn’t know him well enough to know if that’s an accomplishment or not. Maybe. Whichever it is, Jessica isn’t proud of herself. “Uhm.” Jessica starts off intelligently, shifting uncomfortably but there’s no where to shift to in the small space. It’s the new Excalibur and Jessica must have the worst luck of anyone ever. No one tell her siblings, they would never let her live this down.

“Reconnaissance training, Sir.” Jess says as seriously as possible. It’s not... a direct lie. It’s just a dance around the truth. “I’m just sharpening my skillset to perfection.” When she’s not in an OP, Jessica avoids lying if at all possible because Jessica is rather shite at twisting the truth around. But perhaps Excalibur will take the excuse instead of prying further into their crazy world.

“I think... I think I’m done now, Sir. I can get down.” Let her get down and make the quickest escape, please, let’s just put this embarrassing situation behind them. So much for a good impression. Always tripping and falling flat on her face as soon as she’s out of the gate, that’s Jessica’s life.

Jessica shifts, freeing an arm out from behind her so she can move a stack of towels onto the shelf below her and free up space. The last stack follows it, and finally Jess is free to virtually contort herself out of the closet feet first. It fucking hurts to land on her feet after being in such a horrible position for hours, but Jess lands with barely a wobble.

Cleaning Day - f2f - Mark & Ector

“I’ve left his office alone for several weeks now, per his request, but I fear for it’s state.” He took pride in the general cleanliness of HQ and Frank’s office was a stain on that record, a constant smudge of indignity that irked him. Francis must be doing it on purpose. Jess is his partner in crime against this villainous mess-maker.

Mark gives a slow cat-that-ate-the-canary smile while starting to collect his things. “Perfect, I’ll gather everything we’ll need and meet you at Frank’s office. Size small, yes?” He’s insistent that anyone cleaning with him wear one of his ‘stylish’ plastic suits as to not ruin their clothes. It also works at protective equipment against the harsh and sometimes staining chemicals used to cleanse some of the more hazardous offices (Franks and Alistair’s respectively). Frank’s office in particular needs more than the standard cleaning tools.

Jess smiles back. “Yeah, size small.” Taller than Arabella but still small in the world of all these huge people at Kingsman. She was the smallest at MI6, though. Jess heaves the trash bags over her shoulder, wiping the thought of her former place of employment from her mind. Maybe one day she’ll make it through 24 hours without thinking about it. “See you in a bit!” And with that, Jess leaves her office.

About five minutes later, Jess goes to Frank’s office and stands outside of it as she waits for Mark Darcy. She already feels her heart loosening up somewhat in her chest at the idea of getting out of her own mind and into the monstrous mess that will be Frank’s office. When Mark appears with all the cleaning supplies he carries around on Mondays as well as one of his cool plastic suits for her, Jess’s new smile is even more genuine. Jess steps toward him. “Thanks, Mark.”

Anwen smiled and nodded. She set about her work, comforted a little by the proximity to another person. Just being in the same room made it easier sometimes. She looked up after a while, glancing at Jess. “You wouldn’t be hungry, would you?”

Jess works in the easy silence, sorting through papers and files and coming up with a plan for her next assassination. Jess hums a little as she highlights and makes a note, smiling. “I’m always hungry.” Jess tears her eyes away from her work to Uther. “Are you? We could get lunch when all this is done.”
