Good morning, evening, or night! I'm professor Daisy Oak, and I specialize in pokémon social behavioral patterns. It's really nice to meet you!

I'm busy most of the time because of my job, so don't expect me to post daily.

This is my team:

♡ Lotus: Male Ivysaur. This poor little man wasn't chosen, so I chose him.

♡ Seych: Female Blissey. She could be considered my lab assistant, since she's always wanting to help.

♡ Princess: Female Clefairy. I won the Spring Pókemon Contest in Pallet Town because of her. Such a little cutie.

♡ Echo: Shiny Male Chimecho. I got him from my brother as a gift for finishing my studies.

♡ Nightlight: Male Lampent. He just appeared one day and refused to leave, so I caught him. He also likes to act as a nightlight when I'm working during the night.

♡ Ceroba: Female Ninetales. She was one of the pokémon we were studying, but we became so close I knew I had to keep her. A coworker chose her nickname.

Feel free to ask me any question you may have, I'm always available! Well, not always, but I'll try to answer all of them.

Okay, I'm back. I'm sorry for leaving without noticing anyone, but things at the lab got quite chaotic, and once the problems were solved, it was holidays time.

I finally got the chance to take a couple weeks off, which really helped with reducing my stress levels, so I'm more motivated than before.

Yes. I've just been very busy with work. Being the professor (and the lab's chief scientific officer) can be quite tiring and stressful.

Maybe I should go on a vacation soon.

On the bright side, we are obtaining some pretty interesting data from it!

That is a really good question!

Despite Lotus being a Kanto starter, he was actually not my starter, with Princess taking that position. She started only as a contest pokémon, but I think she still qualifies as my starter.

My grandfather is the main professor of the region and the one in charge of giving trainers their starters, so he was constantly dealing with them. Trainers would sometimes come and go, picking their favorite one, which led to what I call "the unpicked starter syndrome", which is just a fancy way of saying that a specific starter pokémon has not been chosen, even after trainers having the chance to pick them. Usually, when that happens, there are many ways to fix the problem, like releasing them, taking them to another place where they can live a happy life, or offering them as an option for the next group of trainers. For starters, which are usually specifically bred for being a trainer's first pokémon, not being chosen can affect them negatively, and Lotus was an example of that.

Lotus had gone through two rounds of trainers, and nobody chose him. Since I would sometimes help my grandfather with some tasks, I could see that poor Bulbasaur get sadder and sadder, and I knew I had to do something before the situation affected him too much.

After a nice chat with my grandfather, Lotus became my new buddy! The little man looked so happy and excited, it was adorable. Keeping him with me was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I wasn't planning on evolving him at first, but then I decided that training with my team would probably be good, just in case something ever happened, so I ended up helping him evolve. However, we decided that being an Ivysaur was enough, at least for now, so he's staying like this until he decides he wants to evolve. I don't want to pressure him.

I think that would be all! I could keep talking about Lotus, but then this post would be way too long.

It's a carefully wrapped wooden box. Inside, there's a matcha tea set, plus a couple of bags of kantonian matcha tea. There's also some kantonian green tea bags, the individual ones you just place inside the mug without any previous preparation.

Day 1 of the electric type enclosure. One Kantonian Raichu and one Alolan Raichu.

They do NOT get along. They absolutely can't stand each other.

One of my coworkers is going to take care of one of them while we solve this problem. We'll probably start by introducing other Kantonian Raichus to the Alolan one, just to see if the problem is the specific one we started the experiment with. Who knows.

I need another cup of tea.

My coworkers want me to dress up as Ceroba Ketsukane.

Because my Ninetales' nickname is Ceroba, and because we have (almost) the same hair color.

Not very creative, but Ceroba's outfit looks pretty. I may do it.

To other users who interact with pokémon because of your job or your studies, what's that moment that made you break the serious and professional character and just laugh?

In my case, it would be what we call "The shiny Caterpie incident".

We were supervising a group of Butterfrees, each of them caught in a different region, to see how members of the same specie but coming from different regions would interact with each other. It all went well, and they got along! Sooner than expected, some of them even started breeding, so we ended up with a few eggs. The problem happened when the eggs hatched.

One of the Caterpies was shiny. The Butterfrees looked so flabbergasted. I don't think they were expecting the Caterpie to be yellow. After a few minutes, they finally calmed down and accepted the shiny baby as part of the group, but that doesn't erase the fact that their surprised faces looked so funny that the team and I had to stop ourselves from laughing too hard.

Ceroba has such maternal instincts that, when it's time to treat pokémon that are afraid of needles, she stays near them, and sometimes even cuddles with them, just to make sure they stay calm.

She's also very protective. When the new intern came, she just followed him around for at least 10 minutes to make sure that he wasn't dangerous.

my name is june, a student currently studying pokemon biology and horticulture :) im really excited to see more of what you post!

though, i do have one question..

My little brothers goomy, though normally so sweet and well behaved… is eating so much!! Even trying to eat things it normally doesnt! Ive been trying to figure out why. maybe its a sign of future evolution? or maybe its lacking some sort of nutrients? he has been looking less… wet, lately..

Hm, such an interesting situation. I cannot 100% confirm anything since I can't examine your brother's Goomy in person, but the symptoms truly align with a pokémon that's ready to evolve. While I recommend letting pokémon that are about to evolve eat extra food, I would keep an eye on it to make sure it's still a reasonable amount. Some pokémon truly don't know when they have eaten enough. I would also make sure that it doesn't eat anything too... strange. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about, I've had to help a few trainers after their buddies decided to try to eat stuff they shouldn't eat. If your brother gets too concerned about the new foods it's eating, I suggest taking it to a Pókemon Center, just in case. 

For the wet part, it may be related to what I've already discussed, but it could also mean that it just needs more water, with the main causes usually being the climate of where it lives or a genetic disposition. A coworker of mine used to babysit a pet Goomy that tended to get a little dried out if not constantly hydrated, so he came up with some creative solutions, like leaving one of those plates you put under big flowerpots full of water so it could roll around, but I think making sure that it gets enough water should be enough.

The new intern's first day is going great. He needs a bit of help from time to time, but that was to be expected.

I may end up hiring him once the internship is over. An extra pair of hands on the team sounds nice.

We have multiple enclosures, both inside and outside, to see how different pokémon will react to each other.

Today, I'll tell you about the Ponyta enclosure.

There are only two pokémon in there, a Kantonian Ponyta and a Galarian Ponyta. I named them Jovial Merryment and Superstitional Realism.

They like to race each other.

I know Ponytas do that, but I believe my name selection influenced their behavior.
