Time to face Lt. Surge. I'll be counting on you, Sandslash, and all (checks notes) zero ground-type moves you learn.
...Time to use the Dig TM, I suppose.
Butterfree has served me well for catching poke'mon, but it's time to switch it out for Drowzee. Hypnosis has a lower accuracy than Sleep Powder, but Butterfree is too fragile to continue with; Drowzee has so much better bulk and typing.
Now to level-grind in Diglett's Cave before taking on the S.S. Anne.

All right, I found an old Game Boy to Game Boy Color link cable. The crisis has been averted and the trading can proceed.
So, fun fact: I don't have two copies of any one Game Boy model. I mean, why would I; that would be redundant! I have one OG Game Boy, one Game Boy Color, one Game Boy Advance, and one Game Boy Advance SP. As it turns out, original GB games don't work with GBA cables, and the GB and GBC have different-size connector plugs.
Let me go through my tangled nest cables and see if there's something that can make this work.
In Poke'mon Blue, I've made it to Cerulean City, caught an Abra, and raised it to Kadabra. I don't want to go through the whole game with it unevolved again, so now seems like a good time to link up with my copy of Red on another Game Boy and so some trading. Of course, Geodude is still a ways away from evolving, and I don't have a Haunter or Machoke yet, so the other trade evolutions will have to wait; but I can take the opportunity to swap an Ekans and Oddish for a Sandshrew and Bellsprout to make a bit more progress on the Pokedex.
