i…do not like villain deku aus, for reasons that have been elaborated on by other people. a frequent defense of villain deku content is that there are logical ways to push izuku into becoming a villain. i’m sure there’s some way to do villain deku in a way that properly takes izuku’s motivations and core character into account, but is it really worth the amount of hurdles you would have to jump through to do it? not to mention that a greater chunk of the villain deku content that actually exist is just…a gigantic power fantasy. i understand why people wish to explore the villain deku au. i understand why there’s so much content for it. but before discussing that, i’d like to look into the common motivators used to explain why izuku becomes a villain, and the reasons that i personally believe that they’re pretty inaccurate to his character.

counterpoint: nobody fucking cares. villain deku aus aren’t hurting anyone. so fucking what if the au isn’t totally “in character”? that’s why it’s an alternate universe! there is no reason that an au version of izuku should have to directly line up with izuku's character, otherwise it’d just be canon. villain deku might be a bit of a power fantasy, but that’s fine! self-indulgence is right at the core of fandom. so indulge. if izuku dropping tacky one-liners and wearing a corny suit makes you happy, then go right the fuck ahead and enjoy it.
