My Opposite by ~maltese101
It had been a week since Dannyâs parents had learned of his ghost-half, and in the worst possible way imaginable. It was a misunderstanding, he would never intentionally hurt family. They left to âget away for awhileâ. How..perfect was this? Practically shunned by his own kin. Unbelievable. They could not believe their own son? Instead they took their daughter with them on a little âget-awayâ to âdiscussâ the âissue at handâ- not something Danny would be sitting around waiting for. As much as he hated to admit it, he had no other to turn to who could better handle this than the very man he held as his enemy- Vlad Masters. Reluctantly, and with a somber nostalgia welling up inside, he dialed the number for Vladâs mansion, and held back his frustration and anger, âVlad? I have a favour to ask..â
The piercing, ear splitting ring of the telephone resounded all throughout the mansion, jolting the owner from his tranquil stupor with no remorse. A groan slipped past his lips as eyes tiredly traveled over to the noisy offender sitting on his desk. What is it now? He thought, exasperation evident on his face. The phone had been ringing off the hook all day; assailing him with nothing but business calls and problems he was supposed to deal with. If there was ever a time to rethink a career move, it would be now. Not to mention this was his day off. Being mayor sure was a joy. Pff.
He picked up the phone from the receiver without even bothering to check the caller ID. But before he could even recite his usual curt greeting, he was cut off by the person on the other end. That person, Vlad noted with a growing sense of agitation, who sounded all too familiar.
"...Daniel?" Well, that was dumb. Who else would it be, really? Vlad knew that voice better than any other. It was just that-- Why would he receive a call from him, of all people? If this was some sort of prank, devised for nothing besides mockery, then he would not stand for it. "A 'favor'? Is that so? Yes of course. You need something and the first person you want to call is me. How utterly believable. Mhmm. Right. So get on with it. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
Oh, Iâm aware Iâve just made a dea with the devil, babe, but I donât care. Iâd rather have my soul in the hands of you then get torn apart by some freakazoid in this place.Â
So sure, Iâll owe you. You better make it clear that I only owe you one thing, got that? Then we have a deal. Yeah, dipstick, I have an understanding. Oh, by the way, call me a homely school girl again and Iâll gladly create an underaged sex scandal rumour with Vlad Masters, got it? No one would think a pretty girl like me would be lying, now would they?
Really? Oh I'm touched. But what you don't realize is that you've chosen the greater of two evils but seeing as you've already chosen your fate, who am I to argue?
Yes I'm a man of my word. One thing; no more, no less. Yes, we have a deal. But don't threaten me. You're in no position to do so and I would be more than happy to just go on my merry way without giving you access to my portal.
Danny watched Vlad with eager excitement as he listened to him speak on the phone, but, as was common with many five year olds, the little halfaâs attention was soon directed elsewhere. A flash of red on the mayorâs desk made his blue eyes brighten and he hurriedly made his way over - this time, though, making sure not to trip on the carpet again.
That had hurt.
âŠHe didnât like that carpet anymore. Meanie.
Upon reaching the desk, he moved to stand on his tippy toes, one small hand clumsily waving around in an attempt to reach that incredibly interesting red thing. It took a few tries, but then he felt something underneath his fingers and a wide grin curled at his lips as he grabbed at it and pushed it down to the floor, where it fell open, papers splaying out across almost the entire carpet.
A red folder.
Danny stared down at it and the papers, before letting out a happy, childish laugh, plopping down onto the floor and grabbing the papers closest to him. Maybe he could make some paper planes or something or maybe he could draw Uncky Vlad something!
As soon as he heard that devastating yet all too familiar sound of falling parchment followed by that jubilant giggle, Vlad knew something was wrong. In fact, he found himself growing angry even before he turned around. What, exactly, just happened behind him, he was unsure of. All he knew was that it most definitely wasn't good.
Slowly, he turned on his heels; fists clenched and grimace already in place. And as it turns out, his premature anger wasn't for nothing. Strewn all over the floor was the stack of paper he had so purposefully set aside in a supposedly secure folder. Which, yes, was horrible but wouldn't normally warrant this severe reaction. No, he was furious because it had taken him all day to sort through that nuisance of a stack and place it in alphabetical and chronological order for the senator. Time he could have very well spent on something else besides wasting it on this backwater town.
Eyes flashed to an unnatural gleaming red (Something that rarely happened out of anger since his own teen years) and an angry snarl broke from his lips until he was practically radiating rage.
"You brat. I thought I told you to STAY PUT. You're just as ignorant now as you--" No. No. He cut himself off at that very moment. He couldn't yell at Daniel the same way he would yell at him in the correct age. It would be useless and would earn nothing more than another temper tantrum.
Oh, Daniel was going to get a nice, pleasant ten thousand volt shock when this was over.
Loudly inhaling and exhaling, he forced himself to calm down. Red faded to clear blue as he once again regained control of his emotions and when he was positively sure that the next thing out of his mouth wouldn't be profanity, he asked, "Daniel. Why would you do that?"
Danny glanced between the small disk and Vlad, a small frown overtaking the previously firm and determined look, because even in his current condition, he still remembered - sort of, anyway, it was all a little blurry at the moment, but the big picture still remained - that giving his dad the disk might not be a good idea.
Because that meant going home.
âI dunnoâŠâ He mumbled, absentmindedly shifting his weight from foot to foot and slowly releasing Vladâs suit from his grasp. âI mean, I could, but theyâll just shoot at me again and thatâs no fun at all.â
It hurt. He didnât like it when things hurt. It was annoying and did he mention that it hurt?
But he still wanted Vlad to wear his hair downâŠ
Aiming a pair of big, hopeful and glazed over eyes at the older halfa, along with a just as hopeful grin, Danny continued; âCan I do something else instead?â
"No. You can't." He replied with a sickeningly sweet smile as he straightened back upright from the teen's grasp and adjusted his suit accordingly. He wasn't going to barter back and forth with him. No, he'd get exactly what he wanted. Like always. And what he wanted was for Daniel to stop complaining and take this disc to his father before--
Just a moment.
Did he say... 'shoot'?
What could that possibly mean? It was an odd way to phrase things, even given the circumstances. Surely he was just referring to his parents foolish lab experiments that more than occasionally caused Daniel some predicaments. Living with two ghost hunter would definitely make things dangerous from time to time. So... Why couldn't Vlad simply brush aside that comment? Even after he applied logic to it? Eyebrows furrowed in confusion and a daunting sense of curiosity made it's presence too obvious for him to not ask, so with a short huff, he inquired, "You should know by now not to, as you so childishly put it, 'Go Ghost' in your house. It's just common sense. Just be Danny Fenton when you give him my 'gift'. Why is this a problem?"
He scrunched his nose up, at first not seeming all that keen on the idea at all, but then his expression brightened enthusiastically. âYeah! Thatâs likeâŠawesome!â He wouldlook pretty great with long hair, wouldnât he?Â
ButâŠ
âBut if I do, youâŠyou gotta promise that weâre not gonna wear ponytails all the time, âk?â Droopy blue eyes narrowed even further in an attempt at a determined look and he clumsily grasped at the front of Vladâs shirt to pull him down to his eye level. ââCause itâsâŠyou shouldnât keep it up all thâ time. Yâknow? It makes your hair sad.â
Surprisingly, Vlad felt something closer to amusement rather than anger when he was suddenly tugged forward. That usually would earn an Daniel an ectoplasmic blast to the face, but now, given the circumstances, he would let this one slide. Plus, the confusion on the younger hybrid's face once this drug induced stupor was over would just be too priceless and would definitely make up for the weird treatment he was receiving.
A solemn nod was given in agreement as he responded lowly, "Right. We wouldn't want my hair to be sad." Wearing his hair was more hindering than helping so he hadn't really had any reason to release the silvery strangs from their usual ponytail. But suddenly, the thought didn't seem so bad as an idea occurred to him. "How about we make a trade, hm? I'll wear my hair down (Just for you) if you give this," He paused to produce a small, plastic disk from his suit pocket. It appeared harmless enough, but really, if placed directly into one's computer (In this case, the orange clad idiot's computer) it would override all security systems and make any information inside accessible to yours truly. Not that Mr.High-as-a-kite-Daniel would realize that. Ha. "to your father. He asked me to burn him a CD earlier this weak but I'm afraid I can't make the delivery myself. So! Do we have a deal, little badger?"
remember-ember replied to your post: Plasmius. I... need your *help*.
Cut the ego, babe, Iâm *not* in the mood. Look, some sort of dipstick magic turned me back to being alive. I need to get out of the Ghost Zone before some psycho realizes that Iâm no longer a ghostpal too. And I hear *you* have a portal.
...Ah. I had been wondering why you appeared so much less like a 'rebellious rockstar' and more of a 'homely schoolgirl'.
I don't entirely mind letting you pass through my portal, but I'm sure you've heard that I don't do any favors without expecting something in return. Nothing comes to mind right now, but in the future, just know that you owe me, Miss Mclain. And breaking a deal with me has it's consequences.
So, with that in mind, do we have an understanding?
Plasmius. I... need your *help*.
Well this certainly is new.
The ever so pompous and haughty Ember Mclain asking for my help? Talk about a twist of events.
And how can I be of service, Miss Mclain?
Anytime Vladdie! We can catch up again too!
Nothing would make me happier...
halfaphantom replied to your post: Hey V-man! I was wonderin' if you wanted to join...
How about /no/?
Already on my way. See you in 15, little badger.
Hey V-man! I was wonderin' if you wanted to join the family for dinner tonight? :D
....Sure. I'll pop by at, say, 5 o' clock sharp? Thank you for extending the invitation, dear friend.
Aw, people are finally noticing your *fantastic* taste in shoes, hmm? What size are you? Maybe we can trade heels some day. Hahahaha!
Your mockery isn't as clever as you may think, Miss Mclain. And I wouldn't wear your monstrous platforms if it was the last pair of footwear on the planet.
So⊠youâre just short?
Hardly. I may not be a giant, but Iâm not âshortâ.
So the heels are to
I told you!
TO ELEVATE AND FOR BETTER POSTURE.
....
And they are not heels!
sonotaghostkid replied to your post: Has Danny ever dyed your hair pink? :D
"Is that a challenge?"
No. Don't get any ideas.
âNope,â Danny answered simply and, brushing the question out of his mind like one would brush dirt off a jacket, he hummed under his breath and slowly made his way past Vlad and behind him.
âHey.â Reaching a hand up, the teen halfa lightly grasped onto the olderâs silvery haired ponytail and gave it a soft tug. Blue eyes were locked intently on it - or, as intently as he could in his current state - and a curious frown pursed at his lips. âWhyâre you keepinâ it like this?â
He would look so much better with his hair down.
"What." It was more of a statement than a question, really. How quickly they had shifted subjects was off putting but then again, what else should he expect? "Don't touch my hair." He shifted out of the other's grasp and turned back around, preferring to keep Daniel in his line of vision. "And to keep it out of the way, of course. Also, I'm not going for the unkept punk rocker look."
"But you know..." He smirked, reaching a hand up to tug a lock of hair at the base of Danny's head. "You could grow your hair out. I'm sure you'd look just lovely with hair as long as mine. And we could even wear matching ponytails! Wouldn't that be great?" Well, the situation wasn't going to be changing any time soon so... Might as well have fun with it.
Has Danny ever dyed your hair pink? :D
Daniel can't even get close enough to me to land a punch, much less actually change my appearance.
((Honestly every time I see you on my dash it's something hilarious and I laugh out loud and my mom stares at me like I'm insane omg I love you okay))
((I'M GLAD I CAN MAKE YOU LAUGH! (: â„â„â„))
