Hereâs my part :)
When Marvin told you he was taking you to his place to gather some supplies of his own, the last thing you expected was some dingy, gross alleyway in the most shadiest side of town. And yet, you stand corrected.
Marvin was already a few paces ahead of you while you remain still at the threshold to the alleyway. Noticing you were no longer following him, Marvin turned towards you, raising an eyebrow.
âYou okay?â He asks, smirking a little at the visible disgust in your face.
âYeah, yeah. I justâŠâ Your voice trails off as you try to find the most delicate way to say it. âWasnât expecting this.â You gesture to the various pieces of garbage and runoff sewer puddles that are abundantly scattered about. As the strong smell of trash hits your nostrils, you wrinkle your nose. Marvin chuckles.
âOh? And what were you expecting?â The magician places a hand on his hip, sounding just a tad bit offended. You walk towards him.
âI donât know! Some fancy apartment downtown?â You attempt to justify your response as Marvin drops his jaw like the drama queen he is.
âHey! Whatâs that supposed to mean?â He demands, playfully glaring at you. You breathe a laugh, absentmindedly playing with the hem of your shirt.
âWell, ya know. Youâre veryâŠâ Again, you rack your brain for the right word. âEccentric! And maybe you like expensive things?â Your voice raises in pitch at the question, shrugging your shoulders. Marvin falters for a moment.
âI- Well- You-â The masked man huffs, crossing his arms as he is unable to form a retort. You hide a snicker behind your hand at seeing the powerful magician rendered utterly silent, a tinge of red across his cheeks.
âAsk your brothers, theyâll say the same thing.â You tease before realising your accidental slip of your tongue. You quickly bite your tongue, regret pooling in the pit of your stomach. Marvinâs face falls at the mention of his brothers, his family. The playful light in his eyes disappears and he turns away from you.
âMarvin, I-â You extend your hand to touch his shoulder before stopping yourself. You lower your hand and simultaneously drop your gaze to a stray to-go cup on its side. Suddenly, you feel a hand on your arm.
âItâs okay, Y/N.â Marvin whispers. You look up and meet his eyes, a soft apologetic smile gracing his face. After a moment, you return the smile.
âYeah, it will be. Because weâre going to get them back. Whatever it takes, Marvin, Iâm here for you. I promise.â As you spoke, you felt determination swell in your chest. Marvin blinks, seeming to process your words, before his smile grows into one of appreciation, the light in his eyes returning to reflect your own feelings of conviction. He nods his thanks.
âUh, could you get your stuff so we can leave? This place reeks.â Marvin laughs and your grateful for the happier sound filling the stagnant air.
âYeah, we can go inside now.â The magician turns on his heel and continues walking further into the alleyway. You furrow your eyebrows in confusion.
âGo inside? Go inside where?â You quickly walk into place at his side. Marvin simply shoots you a smile. Realizing that he wonât be providing any more information, you fall silent. You continue to follow Marvin down the alleyway and make a turn further into it. A tall brick wall towers over you both.
âA dead end?â You question, pausing in your tracks as Marvin walks on. He places a hand on the wall before turning back to you, a large smirk on his face.
âHonestly, I couldnât disagree with you earlier because youâre absolutely right. Dirty alleyways arenât really my style but I enjoy my privacy.â He turns back to the brick wall and mutters something under his breath that you canât quite catch. Suddenly, the wall begins to ripple like disturbed water and Marvin walks right through, disappearing entirely from view. Your eyes widen in surprise before rushing forward.
âMarvin! Whereâd you go?!â You yell. Bursting from the other side of the wall, causing another ripple effect, an outstretched hand reaches for you. You leap back in surprise. A moment passes before Marvin pokes his head out.
âWell are you coming or what?â He asks somewhat impatiently. You blink owlishly. He rolls his eyes before grabbing your hand and pulling you through.
âââ
Alrighty @completely-random-writing, itâs your turn now! :D
Hereâs mine!
ââ
Being pulled into the wall, you closed your eyes quickly. A warm sensation enveloped your body for a moment, like a cloak, and then it was gone.
âSo? Ever been afraid of the dark?â Marvin said, making you open your eyes. A amazed sigh abandoned your lips as you noticed the beautiful dark sky above you.
Looking around, it was as if you were now at the edge of the universe, in a special place where you could see everything. The gray earth beneath your feet formed a path in the starry immensity, and this path divided into several, going to the infinity.
Marvin gave you his hand and began to guide you through that world, following what seemed to be the smallest of the possible ways. Curious, you asked:
âWhat is this place? Where are we going? Where are all of those paths going?â
âCuriosity killed the cat.â Marvin said playfully and you snorted.
âCome on, Iâm not the cat here.â He let out a small laugh.
Getting near a door, Marvin pulled a small chain out of his pocket. It was made of silver and had copper details, it seemed to be very old. Placing a kiss on the only part adorned with gold, Marvin placed it down where there would originally have been a lock, and the door started to shine, opening itself.
Behind the door was a house that seemed to be frozen in time. The structure was old, with wooden furniture and hand-painted pictures on the walls, but there were one or two technological thing here or there. The kitchen seemed to have been the most modified.
âWhat⊠Is there anything else I donât know about you, but that I should?â You asked entering the house. Marvin came in behind you, hiding the chain in his pocket again and closing the door, which shone again and merged with the wall.
âI found this place a few years ago as I was travelling through the portals.â He pointed to the painting of the door on the wall. âTechnically, it doesnât exist. It was frozen in time by a very powerful magician.â
Looking out of the living room window, you could see how the outside world didnât extend much. There was a small clearing, surrounded by few trees, and then nothing. It was a white, empty immensity.
âHow do you know they wonât want to come back?â You asked, noticing a small bird frozen in the air. A faint thud of sadness struck your heart.
âThey fell for they own tricks, thatâs why I try to keep mine simple.â Going to a bookcase, Marvin took a thick leather book from it and handed it to you.
âIf none of my tricks work against Anti, thereâs got to be something here to stop him. Could you look it up while I get some stuff? Thanks.â He said with a friendly smile and then walked away, going up the stairs in the corner of the living room to go somewhere in the second floor to get something.
Sighing heavily, you let out a low âseriously?â noticing the ridiculous number of pages the book possessed. All right, time to look for something.

Ok letâs do this!
You contemplated on where to you card and opted for your back pocket, easy to get to but not obvious enough if the enemy tried to catch you off guard. You watched as Marvin made his disappear up his sleeve.
âTypical magicianâ you mumbled to yourself with a small smile.
Marvin just smirked as he put the rest of the pack of cards away in a pocket. He paused a moment, feeling pins and needles in his fingertips. It had been a while since he had tried a spell that big. He shook it off and began getting other things that would aid them in the fight including a handful of smoke bombs. He sighed at he picked them up
âI was saving these for Jackieboy to useâ he said, sadly âbut I guess we need them more right nowâ he put some in your hand, keeping some for himself. âIf things get dire, use them to get awayâ he said, his face showing a serious expression. He gestured to the door. âLetâs goâ
You found yourself in a different location than the one he took you to in the first place.
âItâs smells better hereâ you quipped as you took in the new sights.
Marvin simply shrugged and smiled.
âHeh, I didnât want to be in that alleyway again eitherâ he turned around and began walking âletâs find that bastard and get my brothers homeâ his breath felt slightly laboured as he walked, feeling his heart race. He knew there was a price for using that much magic to cast the spell on the cards but he wasnât going to let it show. He clenched his fists and strode away faster, leaving you to catch up.
âHey, Marvin wait up!â You called as you rushed to his side. You didnât know where you were going but Marvin seemed to know instinctually. You began to wonder if the cat mask was more than just a decoration as Marvin moved with the grace of a feline.
Youâre up @aquaticember06 :) have fun!
Alright! Hereâs my piece. @autumnleafauthor youâre on deck!

You walked for a while in silence, trying to keep up with Marvinâs pace while taking in your surroundings as you went.
The exit to the his homeâs dimension had lead to the center of a small grove of pine trees, which had grown so closely together that you couldnât see past their foliage. Marvin had forged ahead with a glowing hand, allowing the otherwise solid branches to move aside with ease. You still had to push past them, however, and emerged from the grove with light lines of pine sap on your hands and arms. It was a little sticky, but spruce smelled much nicer than the garbage from the alleyway, so you didnât mind.

Okay, here goes! Enjoy, @nextstep17, I believe itâs your turn now!
You had been to Chaseâs house before, if only briefly. It wasnât too far from the park Marvin had brought you too, but during the decent amount of walking you came to notice the magician taking a deep breath or shaking his head quite often. However, any question you brought to it was quickly talked down by him.
As you had guessed, you didnât walk for long before reaching the house you knew belonged to Chase. A few years ago it had been a nice place, with a well kept garden, always freshly mown, clean windows and a small flower ornament, made by a kid, hanging on the front door. But now, all of that was long in the past: if it wasnât for the light in the house, one wouldâve thought noone lived there.
At a closer inspection, the light became more than concerning. This was no ordinary lamp lighting, it was glowing red and flickering in a way you would expect a computer screen to, not your average ceiling lamp.
âIs⊠do you think thatâs him, Marvin?â
Like you, the magician was staring at the upper floor, that eminated said light.
âWhat else could it be?â
For a moment you thought his voice was breaking, a wierd tone in it, but in the next he already caught himself, if anything was ever there.
âHe has been more inconspicuos before, for sure, but he knows weâre coming. This is a warning. A challenge evenâŠ.â he trails out.
âAnd we have to take it.â, you finish with a firmer tone than you thought you could muster, as you make your way over the front lawn to the entrance.
To your surprise, and your horror, the front door is unlocked. It doesnât even give an eerie creak, just swinging inward to reveal an unnatural corridor. It seemed longer and even warping in the light - and knowing him, that was probably not just a visual effect.
âReady?â you turn to Marvin, who puts on the most determined look over his scared frown.
âReady or not, here we comeâŠâ
