Hi there! I’m Colleen! She/her. Old enough that I burned the tape out of my Backstreet Boy’s cassette by playing it so much. * Jacksepticeye * Markiplier * Undertale * Games * Art * Music * This blog is a little bit of everything that moves me, plus a few stories, pictures, and songs of my own. Welcome! ^_^ (Sleuth Sam in the banner art by me! Please don’t steal.) If you're looking for the songs I've recorded, you can find them under the *sing it again colleen* tag! (Most of them, anyway. Still working on that.)
Heads up for anyone interested: I’ve gone through my blog and put all of the songs I’ve recorded under the tag sing it again colleen! At least, I hope I got them all. I’ll keep working on it. But if anyone wants to dig one up, that’s where you should be able to find them!
🤣🤣🤣 I’m literally watching the meeting animals video at this very moment too. Man, even in the audio, the McCaws are so loud!! But Miley and Tico are gorgeous birds!
Alveus Sanctuary is so cool and everyone who works there is so cool! I didn’t know they existed and now that I know they livestream, I cannot WAIT to incorporate their animal live feeds into my classroom next year! Definitely going to work it into some aspect of the day.
A fly in the house is the most irresistible distraction the cats can fathom. It does not matter what lies between them and their target. Objects, people, other cats, they all become surfaces from which they can fling themselves at the fly.
Sitting on the toilet?
Congratulations, you’re now a tower to climb and the fly is the prize at the top.
After much yelling and swearing, the cats have calmed and I am the owner of several new puncture wounds.
And the fly? Gone. Missing. Hiding somewhere out of reach.
Unrelatedly, I think I’ll be clipping cat nails before the day ends.
We’ve been on break for 9 days. Iyah and I are finally starting to feel like our normal selves again.
The burnout was real, ya’ll.
We’re both taking some summer courses for our respective teaching licenses but one course at a time does not have the mental load of teaching. Not even close.
(Especially in my case. I’m taking a reading course which is designed to prepare people to pass an exam I have already passed, so this content is mostly review for me.)
Gertie has trained me in a new communication method. And today she tested that method to its limit.
She knows we keep the cat toys in the shoe cabinet drawer when they’re all picked up. My mom bought us an automatic crinkle feather spinner toy that runs a feather on a wand between two pieces of crinkly fabric and squeaks like a mouse. And we keep the spinner toy with all the others when we’re not able to monitor them (so they don’t eat parts of it).
Gertie flippin LOVES the spinner toy. Once the other cats get bored and move on, she will play with it and watch it almost endlessly until I pick it up. And if she wasn’t done with it, she whines about that.
So, for the past four days, when she wants to play with the spinner toy, she will go over and sit on the shoe cabinet and meow at me pitifully until I get it out.
Today though, the spinner toy was not her goal.
She did her usual move of sitting and crying… but when the spinner toy came out, she didn’t move. A few minutes later, she was back to crying. So I figured that she wanted a different toy. We also keep sparkle balls and spring toys in that drawer, and she loves springs too. So I got up again, opened the drawer, and gave her a spring.
She knocked it down, but once again she was back to staring and crying from her perch.
I told her I didn’t understand what she wanted. She started knocking things off the top of the cabinet. We were both clearly frustrated.
So I went over and opened the drawer. She very intently peered in from overhead. I started picking things up to show her. Various things that aren’t cat toys: a measuring tape, new feet for my cane, a dead laser light… all of which she sniffed but then looked down again.
I finally lifted the rainbow worm string toy and her tail began to flip. She bapped it enthusiastically.
Ah hah! She wants the worm on a string!
I grabbed two wand toys so I could distract the masses with one and let her play with the other. Mission success: she stopped crying and played with me for a good long while.
And when Iyah got up later and started picking up the room, putting things away… she perched back up on the cabinet and cried.
*sigh* 😆
So, anyway, I think I could maybe train Gertie to use word buttons like the cats I’ve seen on the internet. Maybe I’ll invest in a few.
Alright, I’ve avoided my classwork long enough. Time to go read a few more chapters and pass some quizzes.
oh, no, you misunderstand me. those were my monkeys. yeah the circus and i have since parted ways. yeah it was the elephant thing, i dont really want to address that right now though
