Hello.
So today I went to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to give myself a taste of art back in the golden days.
I always liked looking at paintings from the 16th to 19th century art since they just happen to stand out by letting people know that progression is a big deal.
I honestly never liked the middle ages since they are flad and they kind of look the same. It was the norm back in those days obviously since beauty was traded for a more biblical and religious point of view. They were meant for people that couldn’t read and instead they made a more simple way of telling a tale by making it more of a comic strip.
But as I said: I hate this period of time since it’s flat, boring and mostly (to me at least) disturbing. The humans that are depicted look so..creepy. I wouldn’t really want to hang that on my wall and say: I am able to sleep while this ‘’human’’ stares at me. It just looks creepy.
But that is besides the point. I love renaissance, romance and impressionism for their use of color and their sense of realism in their own way.
Now I know that art in the Middle ages were pretty much the same way, but the humans look human and they tried their utmost, hardest to make the viewer, feel something.
I find art that asks me to look at it more closely or forces me to look deeply into it, very satifying and amazing.
I love this scene of progression (especially when we talk about the Italian renaissance since they started off very strong and kept improving in alot of ways, while the Dutch renaissance was slow and still stuck to the past in some aspects)
I love the fancy coloring and exploration of being part of the painting as a viewer, very beautiful.
Durring my time at the museum I came across some familiar and some unfamiliar faces. I took a handy notebook with me the entire time to write down what I liked and what I disliked about the paintings that drew me in. I also came with alot of conclussions for myself, about what I want to see myself do and also as a viewer, as if I would talk to the artist and compliment and correct the artist on.
But sadly I didn’t have time to get through each and every single one of the things I wanted to see (like CoBrA and the over all fashion)
I will gladly return to it and spend another 5 hours or so there to look at the rest but also on the things i have seen, to check them even more to completely figure my personal favorites and the worst ones, out.
WHAT HAS THIS TO DO WITH HUSK?
Alot! Ever seen cover art for your favorite comics, manga, video games, table top games and even card games? I want to give that experience to you and I will be doing so by giving myself time to make those. Now I haven’t decided an artstyle and method/technique inorder to say: ‘’this is the signature art of Husk’’
But if I do, I would want to give the cover art a sense of impressionism, renaissance and also some romance, while maintaining my signature look. This means I will mainly use the colors that you see in these paintings, not the look.
If I had to say: I want it to look as if it’s the first volume art of One Punch Man, I would be lying to you (though I have to admit that it’s direction is very nice, but it takes too much away from the original art that the Manga and even the webcomic do.
Over all, I really am thankful for these artists for existing and providing us with these views of their future and present that we would otherwise never had.
Here is a list of artists that struck me the most and you should check out for yourself! (prepare for alot of Jan’s)
Hendrik Willem Schweikhardt
Aert Schouman (this man hit me like a truck)
Gerrit van Honthorst (Sater en de Nimf is so life like that it almost made me cry)
Gerrit Adriaensz Berkheyde
And obviously the legendairy man himself: Rembrandt
I recommend going here if you ever do get the chance to come down to Amsterdam.
If you are into sketches, I also recomment het Rembrandt Huis, It features tons of early sketches and also alot of history about what this man has been going through.
The van Gogh museum is also a must if you are very much into something that is completly out of the ordinary and is now currently one of the top artists to have ever lived on this precious planet.
I wish you guys well and art REAL SOON I PROMISSE!
If you read through all of this: Thank you so much.
