The Fairtrade challenge!

Ever heard of Fairtrade? Most of us have by now, but how many of us purchase Fairtrade on a regular basis? I would like to give you all a challenge. To buy one Fairtrade product in your weekly shop. Believe me IT'S EASY and won't cost you anymore then what you already spend. If you're a massive tea drinker like me you'll find Fairtrade tea in most supermarkets (will have the Fairtrade logo), as well as coffee and chocolate.. YES CHOCOLATE! And even Cadbury Dairy Milk has joined the Fairtrade bandwagon!

Why buy Fairtrade? Well because there is no child labour or enforced labour in the making of the product and workers are in a safe and healthy working environment. So you can eat that chocolate guilt free, well nearly ;) If you wanna check out the products and brands before your shop you'll have a clearer idea of what to look out for. I have also discovered the Coles brand coffee and tea are Fairtrade as well. Go Coles!! My top 3 reasons to use modern cloth nappies (MCNs)

Okay mummas and mummas to be, there are a lot more than 5 reason to use modern cloth nappies but these are my top reasons.

1. I initially started using MCNs for the purpose of saving money, however after having a baby you start to really think about their future.. Is this world going to be a safe place for them to live in 10-15 years time?? I shudder at the thought with the way things are going. So my top reason for using MCN's is they are environmentally friendly. We all know how bad disposables are for the environement, taking hundreds of years to decompose combined with the quantity the world uses each year.. YUCK!! Anyway Modern cloth nappies are re-usable and if good quality ones are bought they can even last through 2 or even 3 children!!! Amazing :) Plus you can even buy bamboo inserts which is even better for the environment as bamboo is a renewable source. Okay if I haven't convinced you yet please go to reason 2..

2. Saves money!! To give you an example of how much money, I have been using modern cloth nappies for 2 months now and go through about 6 nappies a day. I calculated that my spend would have been $100 for 2 months for disposables. The amount I have spent on my modern cloth nappy collection so far is also $100. So now every two months I save $100, take a little for laundry costs. I estimate that by the time she is 3 I would have saved at least $1,300. And if my collections lasts through 2 children, even more savings!! At the end of the day this could be money you could save for your babies future and that gives me a lot of reasons to smile :-D

3. My third reason for using modern cloth nappies is they are good for babies skin. When I first had my baby a lot of people had given me disposable nappies as a gift. In this time she had nappy rash on a number of occassions. Since switching to MCN's she has not had nappy rash once! They are soft and comfortable for babies to wear and if she's happy I'm happy! :)  :)  :)

So I hope I may have convinced some of you to try them. Even if you decide they aren't for you, you would have only spent the amount you would have used on disposables anyway! Good luck mother bears!

This is my beautiful 6 month old daughter Azrah Lily Ann. She is wearing a modern cloth nappy by Baby Chino MCN. Forget about the old school cloth and pin nappies, these are easy to use and clean and did I mention ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY!! When you think about how long disposable nappies take to decompose.. hundreds of years, its easy to see why so many people are using these little beauties! And did I mention the money you'll save!
