Personality: Francis is charming and outgoing, enticing people into her restaurant with her sultry smile. Her sense of humor is crude and dark, but she keeps her customers entertained with bawdy jokes and stories. Francis was never fully educated. She can be brash at times, but knows how to tone herself down for more serious occasions.
History: Francis came into a world of heartache. Her mother had died after giving birth to her, leaving her to be raised by her father and older brother. Although well meaning, the two had no idea how to handle a girl, so Francis grew up in coveralls and dirty work. She did not have the presence of a woman in her life until she was nine years old and her brother went away to college. It was then that Francis learned to cook. Her next door neighbor, an Italian widow, took care of Francis while her father was at work. The woman showed Francis the secrets of traditional Italian cooking, skills that Francis eagerly sucked up like a sponge. As soon as she was old enough, she hopped on a train and set a course for New York City. When she arrived, she went around looking for jobs in smaller restaurants, hoping that they would take her. Luckily for her, she was able to find work and soon had enough money to buy herself a small house on the West Egg. When the owner of the restaurant she worked in died, he left it to her.

Personality: Behind her back, some people call her the “Wicked Witch of the East Egg.” Marguerite Baumonte enjoys the luxurious life and she can’t stand to not be the center of attention. She believes the world literally revolves around her. And people comply. She is secretive, nasty and downright mean. But despite all that, guys just love her.
History: When money, looks and fame all go to your head, you get Marguerite. She has been the queen bee since her early school days when she dominated the playground in her little pinafore. Her mother and father have friends in high up places and were both very wealthy themselves, so they bought a house on East Egg, had 2 little girls and decided to spend the rest of their days spoiling them. Marguerite Baumonte cannot stand to be around people with less money and “class” and around New York is always given special treatment.

Personality: The sexy and fascinating Leona Atwell can keep a good secret. So as the effect, she can tell a good lie. But she’s so good at lying that she never gets caught in a web of them. She knows her way around words and is smarter than people give her credit for. She’s a beautiful singer and also knows how to use that to her advantage. Leona has been told many times by her adoring aunt that she should go into psychology (although it is not a field for women) and uses her assessments of someone’s thought process to get what she wants. This beauty is definitely underestimated.
History: From a young age, Leona was taught to keep secrets. When her wealthy uncle became mentally unstable and ended up committing suicide, that was secret one. When at the age of 17, her parents were having a fight with broken bottles in hand that was two. When she ran away a few days later to the home of her wealthy widowed aunt in West Egg, that was three. No, she has not seen her parents since. Upon arriving at her aunt’s doorstep she promised her she would get a job and help the family out still. Against her aunt’s protests, she did, and took up part time singing at the Cotton Club. Leona Atwell’s pretty much horrific childhood made her the secretive, alluring, and daring young woman that she is today. Leona likes a good party so she can (hopefully) forget all that childhood nonsense and have a good time.

Personality: Calloway is a walking party. He is loud, funny, wears a tophat constantly. There’s nothing to dislike about him! He cooks pretty well and eats even better and dances it all off later. Mr. Randolph is living the American dream. He is a great friend who will always help you out and give you a drink.
History: Calloway was born in the Cinematic City of Los Angeles, and grew up dreaming of the day when he would wear a top hat, put his arm around a pretty girl, and toast to some great achievement of his while fireworks went off in the background. He will do anything and everything to make that dream a reality. So he moved to New York after realizing LA wasn’t going to give him that dream, and on his first night in town, fell in with a secretive crowd and Calloway Randolph turned to bootlegging. It made him a ton of money and he became one step closer to that dream. He is one of the most smiley, happy-go-lucky people you’ll ever meet, but guards his secret occupation well.

Personality: Walter is not the kind of person you say no to. He has everything: looks, money, and a bright future. And he knows it. He is a bit full of himself and is very careless with everything he’s got going for him. He spends outrageous amounts of money on cars, boats, suits. Everything. He is reckless at bars and speakeasies, overall pretty rude and disrespectful to anyone who tries to stop him.
History: Born in one of the Rhode Island palaces, Walter Devonshire was spoiled from day 1. From the 17 karat gold-tipped crib to his playhouse the size of a small hotel, Walter never had anything other than the best. He had been a player in his school days and a well-known athlete to all. But his gilded life had a terrible secret. He was at first, very oblivious to the problems within his family, but as he grew up and became more involved in the inheritance debates between his father and his uncle, he realized their threats were actually incredibly serious. At the age of 17, his father was murdered in the garden and although the murderer was never proven to be his uncle, Walter had every right to think so. He took up his father’s profession of being a “coorprate raider.” It was during that time when he hardened his heart and started on a slow spiral downward that has continued to this day.

Personality: Joseph is a quiet man, tending to stay more to the sides of the parties he has been introduced to. Once you break through his shy exterior, however, he is playful and kind, cracking jokes whenever possible. He is very mild-mannered, and it takes a lot to get him angry. He is very smart and is very interested in the histories of foreign countries.
History: Joseph was born into a working family in a small house by Portland Harbor. His father is a blacksmith, so he and his brother grew up around tools. Joseph was never very interested in inheriting his father’s company; he could usually be found in the town’s library reading any book he could get his hands on. In the winter of 1911, when Joseph was fourteen years old, his older brother was killed during an auto race. His parents, distraught, sent Joseph away to boarding school, hoping that he would find a career that would keep him safe from harm. Already the brightest boy of his age, Joseph had no difficulty rising to the top of his class. He studies to be a professor and applied for a job at New York University at the age of 22. Due to increasing enrollment and his incredible intellect, his application was accepted; he began to teach in the fall semester of the next year. He began attending parties with some of the students he taught, as they all believed he needed to get out more.

Personality: James is the polar opposite from his sister Cora. He is friendly and always tries to make people laugh. He is usually the one to deal with the repercussions of Cora’s harshness, so the relationship between the two siblings is a bit strained. He likes to party, and usually ends up taking at least one girl home with him whenever he does. He has a reputation because of it, and seems to like the attention it brings.
History: As the only boy and the oldest child, James was groomed to inherit the family fortune. He knew from a young age what was expected of him, and strived to be the best that he could. His father would golf in his free time, and took James with him when he turned seven. It was clear that he had a natural talent for the sport in only a few games. When the Slates moved to East Egg, James learned how to play polo as well as continued his training in golf. He began to compete when he turned 19, travelling around the world to competitions. He won a fair number of them, establishing himself as one of the top golfers in the country.

Other: James and Cora live mostly off of their family’s fortune, as Cora does not work and James doesn’t make a steady income.

Personality: He’s a bit two sided you see. Around his family and on East Egg in general, Clifford is prim, proper, and perfect -to his parents. But around 15, Clifford started seeing more and more of New York and started to really live life and so his other side is fun, playful and sarcastic. He loves to dance and secretly plays piano and trumpet (he pays Duke Ellington to teach him). He is a bit of a gambler and drinker and embraces the newfound happiness of the 20s quite well.
History: Clifford is the ideal East Egg resident- eloquent, dashing and utterly normal. Or at least his parents think so. But around 15, when his older brother took him out into the city for a night, that all changed. That night made Clifford rebel against his planned out life in a way that isn’t harmful, but sincerely fun. He tells his parents he is out at night playing polo or some other excuse, but really he is dancing, playing cards, drinking, he even takes piano lessons from Duke Ellington! (he sure can afford it.) He is easy with the ladies and a great dancer, but is very loyal to whomever he’s dating. And with all this fun, he still finds a way to keep it from his oh-so formal parents.
