sifting in the sand
for the seashells sally’s
beauty (supposedly) supplied,
seafoam signs
of prayers to be answered,
and past lives
long gone/
some other man’s trash to treasure/
this big yellow belly
swelling
like the summer sun/
aurora,
aurora/
sleeping in the castle/
high off his smoke and mirrors/
pricked needles and
prophesying Protestant
white New England Jesus
beaming in the night sky/
pulling rose thorns from
this sacred heart of mine
