the trees look like they never ended, looked the same as the day before, the hills the same slopes and height – yet helo feels that maybe he would never grow tire of seeing it. standing on the watch tower, rifle tucked to the side, helo’s mind escapes to a simpler time. a patch of flowers not too far from arkadia reminds him of her… persephone. she would’ve loved earth. helo throws a glance towards bellamy, takes in a deep breath, before he looks back out to the scenery before them. ‘ have i ever told you the story about how i was thrown into the skybox? ‘
he isn’t sure he likes it up here. he feels much more comfortable in a tent, or even in the confines of the drop ship. out here, where they can see so much, it’s almost too much. too vast. too overwhelming. it’s easier to be among the trees, where there was a point to where he could stop seeing. so he tries to focus as much as he can on the boy beside him, hands on his hip as his head lowers in his direction as he listens. lifting his head he answers a simple, ‘ no. ‘ he stopped judging a long time ago. ‘ didn’t you kill someone? ‘ he asks, but his words weren’t crude, but simple. there were always rumors, and he heard them frequently when he was training in the guard.
