there’s something about his voice,   about that split second of softness,   that has her stepping forward.   she feels cursed,   doomed to always end up in helo’s presence no matter how far she runs,   and perhaps that is her fault—rather than face what she feels for him,   she flees.   over and over again.   blaming him for the pain,   for the darkness,   for not stopping them.

too much is unsaid and that is why she will always find her way back here.

“   helo,   ”   she whispers once they are alone.   it’s a confession,   a desire,   a need.   bludgeoned with jealousy,   she feels the fires of wasted time.    “   helo.   ”   a hand finds his chest,   she wanders into his eyes,   and her world expands.   oh,   how she has missed the taste of his name on her tongue,   and raven has only ever known how to utter it with feeling.    “   helo,   ”   she says one last time as her gaze dips to his mouth.   she watches his lips like a sunset,   in the way that it leaves you just a little breathless,  and slowly backs him into the wall.   pins him there and begins kissing away any thought he has of that other girl.

‘     she’s  smart,     ‘      leon  says,  leaning  against  the  balcony  railing.    it’s  a  balmy  day,   the  world  a  lovely  gold,   and  he  watches  the  mechanic  zip  through  the  open  field  behind  the  workshop.      a  blur  of  leather.       ‘     offered  to  give  her  a  hand  with  some  of  the  other  bikes  but  she  already  had  ‘em  running.     that’s  your  girl,     yeah ?     mind  if  i  ask  what  happened  to  her ?     ‘
