getting my labs done today i was thinking about years ago when i went to the doctor and i was like 'i've been to another doctor already but he wouldn't listen to me. something's wrong. i've never been this tired in all my life. i know i'm in college and i know i have depression but this is different. please you have to try something.'
so the doctor (back then) ordered labs and it turned out my vitamin d level was like 5 or 7 and i've never seen a doctor so elated about lab results in my entire life. she said, 'it's never. vitamin d. but it is this time. we can fix this. you're going to feel better.'
she was literally like
As someone who's been severely Vit D deficient, it's one of the first things you should look for if you feel perpetually tired, down, or like you just ran a marathon (or, in my case, you ran a half marathon and still weren't recovered weeks later) and can't point to a good reason.
D deficiency makes you feel like crap but it is so easy to fix. Usually they'll put you on a prescription D2 supplement and load you up on OTC D3 (Caltrate etc.) for about three months, then retest your levels. It takes about a month for the D to accumulate in your system, so expect to keep feeling like crap for awhile.
If you've recently started a sport, like...distance running...save yourself the trouble and just start taking the Caltrate. You will need extra Vitamin D to remineralize your bones, so even if you were doing all right before the demand is about to go up. This is what happened to me. Your bones will hurt all the time. It sucks. Go buy the Caltrate and don't end up like me.
