I’m reading a book on biofeedback trainings right now and they talk about this. The words “try” or “need” add pressure to stuff. Sometimes switching from “I need to calm down” or “I’m trying to slow my breathing” to “I’m allowing myself to calm down a little more with each exhale” or “I’m giving myself permission to slow my breathing” can be more helpful. There’s a difference between “try to relax the muscle” and “allow the muscle to soften” that is significant enough that for some people it can totally change the outcome of a relaxation exercise.

For other tips and tricks, instead of asking “why” you can’t change a thought/feeling (why being an offensive question, meaning it forces you to respond defensively - in this case defending the emotion you don’t like) you can ask “is there any leeway or wiggle room with this feeling/thought/belief for something else?” Oftentimes we know multiple things at once, and by allowing for a small amount of ambiguity we can start to accept the situation more fully.

I'm not a huge fan of ghosts as horror/terror devices, so I don't have many recommendations, which can be seen by this rather short list lol. I've tried a LOT of podcasts with ghosts, but it's really not my cup of tea. However, I make exceptions for hauntings because I'm queer as hell and had a terrible childhood. If you understand that correlation, you're one of my kind. (Can you tell I'm struggling to find a visual identity? I'll get there eventually with my recommendation lists designs)

Oh! This is my favorite new show!

(Ok, unfortunately, that’s the only new* show that I got really interested in and kept listening to while it was coming out)

It has got amazing imagery and sound design, you can practically feel the meat all around you. And as a person who has been low key fascinated by meat as an object and in body horror and cosmic horror as genre since very young age, I couldn’t but… let’s say sink my teeth into this world inside a titan.

Characters are just as fascinating. I think that’s my favorite use of dual perspective since Janus Descending - they are perfect narrative foils, representatives of obsession and rejection (how it pushes outside of “norm”, but in opposite direction), of privilege and lack of it (how it both mutilates but in different ways), of love and hate, if you wish (I can not say unification and individualism because in fact both of them actually want to be free).

All in all, it’s a beautiful haunting thing. Season 1 can be treated as its own self contained thing with an open ending, but I think (hope) there’s more in the future of this story.

*not new are WTNV presents shows (I’m still not over the fact Within the Wires is over 😞), Magnus archives/protocols and Hello from the Hallowoods. The last one is much younger than the first two, of course, but still it’s on season 5 and has been relocated in the “old friend” part of my brain.
