an introduction :)

welcome! my name is carmine (she/they)

for some background, half my family was mormon, half was pentecostal, i was raised going to both churches. but these days i would say i identify the most with dvoeverie or folk orthodoxy, but as an affirming queer person i don’t feel super at home at orthodox services but im hoping one day that’ll change, hence the “eastern orthodox at heart”

most of my posts i get from pinterest, always trying to give credit when i can! i made a tag called #christian cats for all the kitties with religious icons i’ve seen, recommend checking it out :3

besides christian theology i love researching about all faiths (im always on wikipedia, just sifting through hyperlinks) ((im autistic obviously if that wasn’t clear)), i think there’s truth and something we can learn from all paths, so non christian things may pop up on here! i also love anthropology and history, i have a deep reverence for human nature and cultures, i think it’s beautiful how we’ve always found a way, even in times where we’re just fighting for survival, to make meaning out of life and create art.

the trick to being a good Christian is to see everybody/everything asa little piece of god. hugging my boyfriends cat right now and all I can think when I bury my head in his purring tummy is "there's a little bit of god in there. this is what being close to god feels like is being close to love and this cat is full of it"

There’s a kind of cruelty in praise and worship.

I don’t mean actual worship. I mean the hand waving, eye closing, sing-songy stuff so popular in evangelical circles today.

And I can’t help but wonder. If they scream songs to the God that they claim to love

To drown out the sounds of screaming children being murdered overseas.

Or if they close their eyes to block out the sight of the poor freezing to death outside their church.

What does the Creator think when we harm with the hands he gave us to heal

When we treat church like a country club

“HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD” they proclaim

When their great God is starving, sick, and OD’d on the side of the road.

It’s easier to sing songs than to serve. Remember that.

If young madre Maria came to your door. Would you turn her away? Would you call her a whore?

Would you shame her for bringing a child to war? or would you step back, and widen your door?

If Jesus was out, feeding the poor, would you call the police? Would you ask him "what for?"

Would you hide young Maria? Hire José? Would you help them as neighbors? What would you say?

Would you tell them to leave, go back where they're from? If that place was Gaza, would you call them scum?

If young, desperate Maria, stole bread from the store, would you call it in? Say to knock down her door?

If she told you they came, from the middle east, would you tell her they deserve the war we brought to their streets?

If she wore a hijab would you call her a killer? If she had henna on her hands would you say it was blood? If Jesus was Black would you hear his word? Or would you call him a criminal just as they did?

Do you only call "neighbor" those with your skin? If you saw theirs was brown, would you call ICE in?

Would you call them "Illegals"? Say they live in Sin? Would you call her dirty? Raise your moral chin?

If your love is conditional, respect saved for few. If you don't accept, those not like you. Do you truly believe that your faith is true? Do you believe freedom is only for few?
