I have a question about AO3 tagging.

I swear I'm not asking this question for me to use it in a fic.

What should people be using to tag Adult/Minor?

Because I just saw a fic that really confused me the way it was tagged combined with the summary. It tagged Consensual Underage Sex. And, to me, that implies that both people having sex are underage. However, it was Adult/Minor (for the record, both characters in the source material are adults played by adults), and I couldn't tell that from the tags. I only knew because I opened it out of curiosity, and the author wrote the original prompt, which clearly indicated that one of the characters was meant to be a minor.

There should be a specific tag for that because if someone doesn't want to read Underage Sex then they probably also don't wanna read Adult/Minor, so it wouldn't be a big deal. But, like, there are many reasons why people would be okay with Minor/Minor and not Adult/Minor.

I've been using Adult/Minor in ths is post, but I feel like that doesn't really fit the current tagging format on AO3 at the moment. Adult x Minor is also too old school.

I can kinda understand why Consensual Underage Sex is used to imply Adult/Minor because if you tag sex of any kind on AO3, it's assumed to be consensual unless it's tagged as non-con. So, having to specify Consensual Underage Sex might be meant to imply that consent is important in the context in which the sex appears as Adult/Minor is illegal irl. However, underage sex is also technically illegal below the age of consent for the given state. So, like, technically you would want to clarify consent in that case as well. I just think it's not a strong enough tag for the situation. Because, personally, I would like to avoid Adult/Minor.

Has anyone seen any other tags being used for this situation? Or have any ideas about what could be used.

Also, I'm not asking because I'm an AO3 newbie. I've been reading fanfiction for 15 years and on AO3 for at least 10. It's just that the tagging system is imperfect.

I re-watch Friends with my mom when it's on TV at night, and while I hate Ross...Rachel both cheats on her high school boyfriend, and becomes her ex-fiance's mistress, but when Ross has ill-advised drunken rebound sex while they are broken up (she actually say they are "broken up" twice rather than just "on a break") suddenly he's a monster.

Like, he fucked up majorly by not telling her about it himself and actively keeping it from her, but he didn't actually do anything wrong by sleeping with "another woman".

That being said. I'm glad they broke up because they did not have a healthy relationship l. Also, I liked Rachel better with Joey and I will not apologize for it.

You know, I have a very similar relationship with my facial birthmark that Oliver Stark does in that it has very little impact on my life at all, to the point that I forget that it's even there.

Mine is bigger than Oliver's, but much less noticeable and in a less conspicuous spot. If anything, people think it's a bruise if they see it at all. Usually when my skin is wet...not sure how that works, but sure.

Like, I always grew up thinking it was cool, and if I didn't think it was cool, I didn't think anything of it at all unless someone else points it out (which I think may have happened exactly once). Either no one notices it, or they think it's an injury. Sound familiar?

I have unintentionally become a sleeper agent in a debate taking place in a tiktok comments section.

It's a British vs American thing. I'm American. They think I'm British.

How did this happen? I'm a graduate student and I use non-personalized technical language and refered to Americans as Americans instead of saying "we" and then proceeded to say "we" to refer to both Americans and Brits because I was running out of characters. I never referred to Brits by themselves.

I was just trying to clarify! I am one of the two! But he didn't know which one! "We" doesn't automatically imply American in this case! I needed to specify who I was talking about!

Anyway, I'm in too deep now and am continuing to use vague language to maintain plausible deniability.

I' not sure if this is a neurospicy problem or an academic problem...or a bilingual problem...probably all three tbh.

I maintain that this was not my fault.

My VPN finally gave out on me so I can't watch the 911 season finale until 11am on Friday (my time) which is about 9 hours after it airs (at 2am).

My current plan involves staying up until 2, then avoiding social media once episode reaction updates start after a few minutes. Then, trying to go to bed before 3 because then I have to avoid the internet as a whole when the articles start to come out.

I really have to get to bed before 5am so I'm not tempted to watch the uploaded clips like I normally do. I want to see this episode in it's purest form.

Hopefully, I will be tired enough to sleep until 11 or at least very close to. I've been waking up at 7 on the dot for a few days, but I'm hoping pushing it towards 3 will help with that.

Meanwhile, I'm actually already very tired and want to sleep. but I can't or I will wake up early and then this plan becomes a test of willpower.

So, I'm being productive and working in my Master's thesis instead. Go me. I've already read a 200 page dissertation that I want to reference in my literature review. May the fandom gods give me strength.
