She immediately softens her rough exterior to give him a more sincere smile. “I know someone you should meet,” Trish spoke, placing her hands on her waist. “He would love what you have to say.”

He returns her smile, not quite placing how but definitely noticing her change in expression. “Well, sounds good! ‘S always nice t’ meet a friend’s friend. He sounds like a pretty upbeat kinda guy, huh? Guess y’ just kinda attract people like that.”

She smiled to him when he spoke with excitement. She didn’t mind it - it was almost infectious - but how could he be so naive about the dangers that lurk? Even Trish, a girl with little knowledge about the true world, knew how dangerous it was.
“You think? I got a few friends on my phone but - but I don’t know about the grounded part,” she responded, truthfully.
He gets a slightly more serious, pensive look. “Well, look at it this way. Someone might’ve done some real bad things in the past, or had real bad things done t’ them, before comin’ to the city. But here, ‘s kinda a fresh slate, right? Y’ can start again without that on yer back.” You might almost think the boy was talking from personal experience.
“An’ when y’think th’ past’s gotcha, yer friends can show ya that’s not th’ same place anymore.
“So that’s why havin’ friends ‘s a good thing. There’s good stuff ‘bout anything an’ anyone, even kidnapper scientists from another dimension.”

“Not as nice?! Listen here, bilge rat, there ain’t anyone around as nasty as me! I’m everyone’s enemy, ‘cause I’m gonna rule over ‘em all one day!” She was really set off now, this kid managing to hit every button on her ‘ticked-off’ console. “So why don’tcha–….huh?”
Risky was thrown off guard by the sudden offer, simply grabbing the orange juice in the middle of her tirade. Silently, she stared at it, then at the boy, the back at the juice. She unscrewed the cap, took a sip.
“…Actually, yeah, that’s pretty good. Thanks, kid.”
“Yeah, right?” He smiles at having apparently defused the situation, nodding and grabbing a second juice from the bag for himself. “C’mon, let’s sit down. Think there’s a park round th’ corner. Y’ probably have some questions ‘bout this place Ninten can answer.”
He continues on without waiting for more than a moment, frowning slightly. “Guess Ninten was rude, sorry. ‘ve seen some real bad people here who just wanna hurt people fer no reason, ‘n didn’t wanna see another. Kinda gets t’ you, y’know?” His characteristic smile returns.
“But someone who likes orange juice can’t be that bad, huh?”

Oh, my god, did he actually just say that?! Did he really just make a poopdeck joke when he was some lame-looking kid and she was the actual pirate here? That takes Pike Balls…no, not just Pike Balls, Mega Pike Balls!
“Wow, you really know how to rub a girl the wrong way, don’tcha, kiddo? Listen, I might not be at full capacity right now, but that doesn’t mean I can’t caution and toll you where you stand! Hey, look at me when I’m talking to you, boy scout!”
“I guess if y’ really want to, y’can. ‘S been a while since Ninten’s had a solid fight, ‘n it helps t’ stay in shape. Just tryin’ t’ warn ya before y’get into a fight with someone who’s not as nice.” He shrugs, finally finding what he was looking for while otherwise ignoring her threats.
“Here.” He holds out a box of orange juice to her casually, still fairly cold. “Don’t have any change ‘r candy, but this’ll do. Orange juice’s the best.”

Wow. Double wow. Triple wow! Look at this kid, walking around like he owns the place, talking up a mean game! With that kind of tone, there was no way Risky wasn’t about to stick her boot somewhere unmentionable due to ESRB ratings.
“Hey, kid. Tell me you’ve got some candy, or some lunch money, or something. ‘Cause I’m super in the mood to take it from you right about now.” Also, she’s Gameboy Color gold; that ain’t ‘these days,’ kiddo.
“That sounds like fun, except since y’ seem ‘t be brand-new, and Ninten’s been here fer two years, so y’d probably just get yer poopdeck wiped, and nobody wants t’ do that.” He shrugs, holding up a finger in a ‘one moment’ gesture, then swings his bag in front of him casually and starts fishing around in his bag for something without much evident attention paid to her.

She smiled back, unsure quite yet if she should tell him that her father would probably eventually find where she lived and try to kill them both. Trish decided to keep that relatively secret.
“Friends…? I, uh, like, sure!” She wasn’t quite used to that - outside of the famiglia there were wasn’t much friends. She had some here, but none as important-looking as Ninten looked. It reminded her of… Giorno, really. It was noble.
“Great!” He grins widely, unaware of her internal debate.
“ ‘S always good t’ have friends. They keep ya grounded n’ stuff, ‘specially now y’get whisked away t’ wacky computer city. That’s the big plus ‘bout th’ Hive- y’can meet people from all over, n’ you can be friends with people y’couldn’t before.”
“So I get it. This is some big city full of chumps of all sizes who probably couldn’t stand against the Tinker Tub for even a second. More importantly…”
“How the heck am I supposed to do anything without a crew, huh?! What am I supposed to do, rely on actual people now? No way, no how! People stink, and expect you to share your treasure with them!”
“Eyyup. Fraid so. They stick y’ here with th’ worst stuff they can give ya, an’ y’ might get th' rest back eventually, slowly, if yer a good girl ‘bout it. So make some friends ‘n deal.” He definitely sounds like he’s given this talk more than once. Jeez, this is the kind of rabble Nintendo lets on their consoles these days?

“– Just a month or so,” came the older, clearly embarrassed. “I’m sorry if I’ve been sleeping in your bed or anything! Please, make yourself at home. I’m Ashley,” she lied, holding out her hand.
“Nah, there're four bedrooms per apartment, right? (Even though they still haven’t changed th’ maps...) So one of ‘em’ll be empty, and that’ll be Ninten’s.” He hops to his feet, waking over to give her a friendly handshake with an encouraging smile.
“Nice t’meetcha, Ashley. If you’ve got any questions ‘bout the city n’ stuff, ask away whenever y’want. We’re friends now after all, right?”

“Eh, kinda. I guess. Could do with some sugar... ooo, ‘r honey. That’d be good. Honey makes everythin' better. Still pretty good though, ‘f y’ get past th’ first impression.”
