when i was a teenager first reading aftg i thought neil was weird like that because of his upbringing and such. now that i am older and wiser and have known plenty of 18-20 year olds i understand that he was actually very normal and well adjusted for his age
Andrew was such a yapper when he was on his meds I like to think that when Neil and him get comfortable in their relationship he goes right back to yapping 24/7
Andrew Minyard better than me fr because if my blue eyed situationship said "thank you, you were amazing" to me after I gave 110% at a fucking stickball game and then immediately gets kidnapped by his serial killer dad he conveniently forgot to tell me about, and I had to learn that my codependent worstie knew the whole time through "gentle persuasion"...
the funniest possible evolution of neil’s trauma is him eventually becoming too comfortable
like this man spent his childhood memorizing exits and sleeping with shoes on and now he’s thirty and yelling “andrew where’s my charger” from another room like he’s been domesticated beyond recognition
the foxes resist a neat summarization of their characters at every turn and it's truly one of the most consistently impressive aspects of aftg. i'm always in awe of how real these people feel, how even on tumblr where people try to boil them down, the text resists it. andrew is one of matt's best men at his wedding. kevin's on the dance floor. allison when she's not putting on a face. nicky's good at video games. dan at the banquet. neil texting happy new year. literally everything about andrew minyard. perhaps it's a result of being in this fandom for like seven years but im always so confused when i see these characters get so frequently flattened in their fanon iterations. the thesis is chances the motif is change. did we read the same books. these motherfuckers are so textured i'm getting callouses as we speak.
After Abby's house, the Columbia house and the Lofts, I finally built all three foxes dorms! They are based on the descriptions we have of them (mainly in TFC and TSC) and a few Clemson dorm tours I found (x, x), since Nora said the Lofts is the only place where she's never lived before.
According to Neil, they are all side-by-side down the corridor, so I elected to make the girls' dorm mirrored for plumbing purposes since they're in the middle. They have a small kitchenette, a main room that fits a little more than three desks length-wise, and a short hallway that dead-ends in a bathroom and branches to the bedroom.
Neil, Matt and Seth
By far the barest room, Matt is the only one who really brought any furniture. His media console that Neil helps to assemble is peak 2000s, and he's the only one that owns a laptop. The bedroom has a single closet, a shelving unit and two dressers tucked under Seth's bed, so I assumed one dresser for each resident and replicated this furniture logic in all dorms. Their bathroom is filled with Matt's hair products (and yes, the shower curtains are all like this because I saw in one of the tours and found hilarious. makes the shower scene more ridiculous than the trash bags) (i was surprised a college dorm would have a bathtub but Neil mentions it so)
Dan, Allison and Renee
Yeah, I won't deny I had favourites... Here I added a view from when you just walk into the dorm, and right on the hallway going to the bathroom there's also a utilities closet. We know they spend a lot of time here watching movies and such, so I think the girls put a lot into making it cosy. Allison obviously bought most of it, but Renee's got a laptop too and I imagined the more crafty stuff came from her. The dorms' kitchens, per Jean's description, have each a two-burner, fridge and microwave, and Dan got the sexy-firefighter calendar to top it off. In their bedroom, Allison's got the top bunk with a clothes' rack underneath, Renee across from her, and Dan on the bottom.
The Monsters
With four residents, they have to cramp everything to fit: the shelving went to the living room to prop their TV and Aaron and Nicky have their desks back-to-back. Kevin is the only one with a laptop, and Andrew's desk is closest to the window so he can smoke. (I also gave them a little stool by the kitchen island for the twins...) I reinforce my hc that medicated!Andrew saw the ugly gothic rug and insisted they bought it. In the bedroom, we have Aaron (bottom) and Nicky (top) on one side and Andrew (bottom) and Kevin (top) on the other, with two dressers put together so, again, Andrew can smoke.
And that's it! I'm pretty much out of aftg builds now, so i'm not sure if there will be a next lol
