On June 27, 2002, we lost a very special individual: the talented and innovative musician, John Entwistle. I wish that he rests in peace, but the more I say “rest in peace,” the more absurd it sounds. Resting is the last thing I imagine John to be doing up there; I imagine him doing what he always loved: playing the bass– and LOUD; surrounded by fans, friends and family, with that same calm demeanor and that same expression on his face, this time saying, “yeah, I still got it!” And who knows what crazy antics he and Keith are up to?

For someone who wanted to be remembered as one who changed the face of bass guitar, I think he did a pretty good job. It’s no accident he’s often cited as one of the greatest bassists of all time. He’s truly a legend and is missed, but he is forever in our hearts.

Sometimes when it thunders, I like to think that it’s John playing his bass up there, on top of the sky. Play on, John! ♥
