(Miles is entrusted with taking care of Billie for a whole weekend. Not being acclimated with babies, Miles has trouble until his angel in disguise shows up through his bedroom window )
First of all, in his expert opinion, his parents were too damn old to be having another baby, especially when Miles was 18 years older than said baby.
But, his parents were happy so he put on a happy face and rolled with it, helping his mom throughout her pregnancy, helping his dad put together baby furniture and that was alright. Until the baby actually got here.
He loved Billie, how could he not ? She was his little sister and even though he had to get used to her being around the house, it’s not like he disliked her, it was just an adjustment getting used to not being the only child anymore after 18 years.
When he was at home from school, he saw how exhausted his parents were looking after Billie. They were in their forties, caring for a baby for the first time in eighteen years, of course they were exhausted and they desperately needed a break.
So, for their anniversary, Miles reluctantly volunteered to babysit Billie while his parents went away for the weekend.
His mom was, understandably, hesitant and so was Miles, since Miles was only used to watching Billie for a few hours, not a whole weekend, but he assured them that everything was going to be fine anyways.
“Are you sure you’re going to be okay Miles ?” Rio had asked. “We don’t have to go, or we could take Billie with us-“
“It’s your anniversary and you need a break, we’ll be fine, besides, she’s like what, five months old now ? I read that’s one of the easier stages.” Miles assured.
“Well here’s the phone number for the hotel, call us if you can’t handle something and we’ll rush back.” Rio had said, giving him a piece a paper.
“We’ll be fine ! Now go on and enjoy your anniversary !”
Billie hadn’t stopped crying for hours. It was now two in the morning and she had been crying since ten and Miles was losing his damn mind. Part of him wanted to call his parents but he knew they needed this break and he didn’t want them to come rushing back. He gently rocked Billie, even though she fussed and cried. Loudly.
“What is wrong with you ?” Miles asked. “I fed you, I changed you, why are you crying ?”
Just as he was about to give up and call his parents, he heard a faint tapping at the window. He looked over to see none other but his boyfriend, Hobie Brown on the other side, holding a bag and waving before opening the window from the other side and letting himself in, only to flinch when he heard the ear piercing crying.
“Gwendy said your parents were gone for the weekend so I decided to crash but I didn’t know you had the baby with you.” Hobie said, crawling through the window. “She’s cryin’ up a storm, what’d you do ?”
“I didn’t do anything ! She just started crying !” Miles said, obviously frustrated. “I’ve tried everything and nothing has worked and I’m just so damn tired-“
Hobie frowned, seeing Miles’ frustration and the frustration on Billie’s face too. He hummed and gave Miles the bag before taking Billie from him.
“There’s takeout in the bag, figured you’d be hungry.” Hobie said, cradling Billie in his arms as he looked Billie over. “Now what’s up with you ?”
“Look, I’ve tried everything, I’m just going to call mom and-“
Miles looked at Hobie in disbelief.
“Wait, you know what’s wrong ?” Miles asked.
“Mhmm, I’ve seen this before.” Hobie said, laying Billie on the bed, on her back. “Luckily I know how to fix this.”
“Really ? How ?” Miles asked.
Hobie took Billie’s legs and made them move as if she was riding a bike, before pulling them outwards and pressing them against her stomach.
Miles was about to question what he was doing, until he heard the loudest fart he had ever heard come out of a baby.
And Billie had stopped crying.
Hobie picked Billie up, holding her close to his face but not close enough that she could pull at his piercings.
“Bet you feel better now, huh Billie Jean ?” He asked, as Billie cooed and reached to touch his face.
“How did you know that she just needed to fart ?!?” Miles asked, astonished.
“Easy, I felt her tummy and it was all hard and shit so I figured she just needed to pass gas and babies have trouble doing that by themselves.” He chuckled, watching Billie rub her eye and yawn. “Now she’s sleepy. You go ahead and eat your food and relax, I can put her down, then we can watch a movie, yeah ?”
Miles didn’t know why but he became ten times more attracted to Hobie than he already was.
Miles and Hobie laid in Miles’ bed, watching The Teen Apocalypse Trilogy, Billie sleeping peacefully between them. She hadn’t stirred, out like a light ever since Hobie worked his baby magic on her and whenever she did scrunch her face up as if she were going to wake up and cry, Hobie would rest his hand on her back and she would be at ease.
“You’re starin’ at me instead of the movie.” Hobie said, snapping Miles out of his trance. Miles didn’t even realize that he had been staring. “What’s buggin’ ya ?”
“It’s just… you’re so good with kids, you’re good with Mayday, you’re good with Billie… “ Miles rubbed the back of his neck. “How ?”
“I dunno, just comes naturally.” Hobie shrugged. “Always had a soft spot for the little ones, y’know ?”
“Would you… ever want to have kids in the future ?” Miles asked, hesitantly.
“Bit early to be thinkin’ bout that yeah ? Don’t tell me you’re gettin’ baby fever lovie.” Hobie teased.
“You’re right, it was a dumb question, just forget I even asked it.” Miles hid his face in his pillow.
“No, it’s not, I’d love to have a little one in the future.” Hobie nudged Miles’ side. “And I’d love it even more if I had the kid with you.”
“You for real ?” He asked. Hobie nodded. “But I suck at taking care of Billie, I had to have you help me all of the time.”
“I’m for real.” Hobie replied. “I think you’ll be a great dad, once you learn the ropes and parenting requires help anyways so you’ll always have me helping you.”
Miles felt his heart flutter. Hobie wanted to have a kid with him one day ? His mind started racing. What would their baby look like ? What would they name it ? Would they be difficult or easygoing ? His mind started racing about babies until Hobie nudged him.
“Oi, I see you thinking over there. Stop thinking about babies, I said someday, not immediately.”
“But I can’t help it, you put the thought into my head !” Miles groaned. “Now I can’t stop thinking about a future baby with your eyes and my nose and your lips with my hair-“
Hobie rolled his eyes and continued to let Miles ramble, shaking his head and turning his attention back towards the TV.
Although a baby with his eyes and Miles’ nose did sound cute.
