recently, im so invested with shui qian cheng's novels. ive become part of the 188 scum gongs fanclub lol.

anyways, my beloved fool and my beloved enemy was my starter pack. sqc really made sure her gongs are scum and toxic men bec she really got me with that.

Jiheon realizing he has been recently finding Jaekyoung small actions "cute" and feeling flustered just by thinking about it, and Jaekyoung obviously showing everyone that Jiheon belongs only to him, even their coworkers are starting to find their closeness somewhat different as if something's really going on between them 🥹

I have a thing for dark-themed BL Korean novels and danmeis. Even though I know what I'm getting myself into, I still can't stop reading them. I don't usually like dark fiction, but when I picked up danmeis and Korean novels with such heavy themes, it changed the trajectory of my life. I don't tolerate the wrongdoings in these novels of course, but the challenges faced by the characters keep me going. Curiosity definitely kills the cat, but I want to see how things will unfold. How will the author pull the strings? How will the characters face their dilemmas? What will the end be for them?

You might call me a masochist for liking them, but BL stories like these are so thrilling and bone-chilling to read. I know how to separate fiction from reality, so it doesn't become a problem for me (though it might be for some who don't find it appealing). If you want to consume this type of media, please read the warnings first. THEY ARE SO IMPORTANT. No one is responsible for your consumption but YOU.

To be honest, I’ve never felt so human while reading a novel, even with its dark scenes (basically transitioning from being a Wattpad reader to a mature BL Korean and Chinese novel reader, lol). After reading them, I felt more human and mature enough to handle such themes. I was able to understand and analyze the characters' behavior and the story progression, exploring how and why it turned out that way. I’m not shitting on Wattpad readers or authors, but there are significant differences in how stories and their aftermaths are portrayed. Perhaps what draws me to these BL Korean novels and danmeis is the well-written plots and unique characters compared to other forms of media.

Jerome’s efforts to fix things weren’t just out of pity. He was doing it because he didn’t want to see the current Raymond become like the <Bluebell> Raymond, lost and lifeless almost surrendering to the likes of Hugh and George (even though we all know it was just Raymond's bait to act so he could escape Bluebell).

When he whispered to him that Raymond shouldn’t be their pet during <Bluebell>, he was genuinely trying to save him. Jerome wants to see the fiery, strong, and a revenge maniac Raymond who has the guts to burn them alive, instead of a surrendering Raymond (and that's what made him like Raymond even more in the next volumes).

But what happened on the <Campsite> was different. Raymond was slowly drifting away from reality after being SA-ed, beaten up, and drugged many times. When Jerome noticed such changes in Raymond as he hallucinated of the younger Jerome White during their <Bluebell> days, he has to do something and pull Raymond back to reality or else it'll be the last time he will meet the Raymond he always liked.

So, he rehabilitated him in the cabin, fed him, clothed and helped him bathe, and went on a few walks with him outside the cabin for once to make Raymond see the outside world he should've belonged in the first place if it weren't for the top-floor boys.

Jerome genuinely tried to help Raymond break free from Hugh and George’s control in his own small ways during the <Bluebell> arc. Just by asking him what he wants, even giving him the leeway to escape <Bluebell>, he was really giving Raymond the chance to flee away from them.

That’s why it was shocking to see Jerome’s reaction to Raymond appearing lifeless, as if he’d surrendered to Hugh and George entirely. If Jerome had been able to leverage his royal influence, he might have saved Raymond and freed himself from the Donwell family’s leash attached to his neck, but he lacked the power for revenge at that time.

This line from Jerome now makes sense. Raymond obviously did nothing wrong, it was them who did him wrong, so Raymond doesn't need to apologize for what happened to himself. Jerome knows it all too well and it pains me that he is trapped under the Donwells' trick and can't do anything about it.

Saw Nara-nim's Q&A about the "what-if" if Raymond never walked to the top-floor boys' life. Hugh has plans to take George, Simon, and Jerome together at Cambridge. But then, if that happens, Jerome will never be freed from the Donwells. He will never find freedom, he will always be one of their prized stallion they can play around with.

I'm not saying that Raymond's existence and suffering at their hands is a blessing in disguise. Raymond was the glitch in their matrix, he was revolutionary in that aspect.

This realization hits me so differently after reading Jerome’s backstory. It added a new layer of understanding towards his character and I feel so frustrated on myself that I failed to notice this. I’ll re-read the <Bluebell> arc once I finish the other volumes.

I highly second this because Jaekyoung is such a simp for Jiheon. He might be blunt and too obvious about it, but I love how he's down bad for Jiheon that he'd do everything for him even if he'll be throwing away his career just to end their athlete-agent relationship and finally be more intimately as real lovers.

Though he sometimes pisses me off with his arrogant attitude, somehow it was kind of tolerable and I love to see how Jiheon tames this big bad wolf.

Its really rare to see semes that are simps to their ukes (even though I've seen several already but yeah my point still stands) so I'm adding 대쉬 as one of those BLs that has a possessive simp seme.

(almost done with volume 2 yay! cant wait to see their real progress and development towards romance bec i know both of them still has a long way to go, and so does for me reading all the volumes. btw this quote excerpt came from the smut chapter lol)
