“almost 1 year is a lil too much for me” fuck off. fanfic writers don’t owe you anything. one of my favorite fics was updated after 13 years, and what I did is that I thanked the author for choosing to continue the work, I didn’t act like a spoiled toddler by asking why they didn’t update sooner. and even if a writer chooses to abandon their fic permanently with no explanation, that is their choice, their hobby, their decision. they don’t owe your entitled ass anything.

How much Ironwood used to care about Mantle?

This might sound like a strange question, even out of place.But let's look at the evidence.

Ironwood: I know how this all looks. Recalling my military? The embargo? I probably don't seem the most trustworthy right now. Blake: Then why continue it? Nora: The people of Mantle are hurting! Ironwood: I needed to ensure Salem couldn't infiltrate Atlas. And I wanted my military here, protecting my people. Yang: But it's not protecting them! It's making everyone hate you. Ironwood: It's a price I'm willing to pay.

Well, according to James, bringing the armed forces to the kingdom was partly to protect Atlas.

However, there's been a lot of work done in that regard. We saw Penny being great and all, but if it weren't for Ruby's party, the Grimm would have killed people.

Plus, the wall still needs repairing and Mantle's security network needs updating. And from the way the characters talk about it, it seems Ironwood isn't doing it out of pure disinterest.

But aside from that, there are some interesting points. Penny is assigned as the protector of Mantle. Which is quite useful. Some say it's simply because Penny is a robot, but there are soldiers on Mantle who are human. So that's not it.

So soldiers, robots, Penny, and a small fleet of Mantas. Considering the airships didn't help kill the Sabyr before they entered Mantle, but did participate in trying to kill the Megoliaths, I imagine they only get involved when the situation is dire.

We know that once the children obtained their Huntsman licenses, they were assigned to missions. While Amity Tower was the priority, some missions ended up being on Mantle.

Marrow: We need someone to escort children to the preschool down in Mantle. There's not actually any danger, but the parents fret, and that attracts Grimm. Elm: A massive Sabyr is loose in the Mantle sewers! We need two brave warriors to flush it out!

Ironwood himself recognized the problems in Mantle and that was partly why he needed the help of Ruby and her friends.

Ironwood: No. No, you're right. Things in Mantle have been… hard to manage lately. I'm not blind to its issues. In fact, that's what I want to talk to you about. Ironwood: With the launch of this mobile communications tower and tensions down in Mantle, I think there's a lot of good your teams can do here.

And well, in RWBY Arrowfell, something is mentioned about helping the victims of Hanlon Fifeston. Victims who were mostly faunus from Mantle.

After the massacre at Robyn's party, James implemented a ban on assemblies and curtailed liberties. It might seem strange to consider this, but it shows that Ironwood isn't indifferent to Mantle's problems. In his own way, he's trying to protect the city.

Ironwood: Citizens of Mantle - Following the most recent Grimm attack, a temporary prohibition of assembly is in place. Ironwood: There are to be no public gatherings of any kind. Please conduct your business and return to your homes before the curfew.

Now, it's often said that Mantle has a police state and Atlas doesn't. Well, we've hardly seen Atlas City in a normal situation, only in volume 8. So we don't know if there isn't a police state.

Furthermore, the ban on gatherings in Mantle occurs due to the city's particularities, such as its greater vulnerability to the Grimm. In addition, these kinds of practices aren't a punishment; they're to guarantee general security.

Another thing. Even Ironwood himself considered working with Robyn. Or at least he entertained the possibility.

He seemed extremely affected by the situation in Mantle. Although he refused to evacuate Mantle to Atlas, he did not reject the idea of ​​"Ground support".

And well, in the end, he did try to evacuate Mantle to Atlas. I mean, all he needed was his allies to convince him.

Some say Ironwood was out of character in volume 8. I say his Gravity plan is out of character. I mean, is he really going to abandon Mantle so easily after everything he's done for it? There's no need to evacuate it to Atlas; he could use the SDC ships to evacuate them to Argus while he rebuilds Atlas City.

Anyway, if Ironwood truly didn't care about Mantle, why did he do so much for the city? Why did he dedicate so many resources, soldiers, huntsmen, ships, security measures, and aid to the city? Obviously, his priority is Atlas City, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care about Mantle as well.

Everyone's complaining about the embargo… But do we know what effects it had? I mean, we know the reasons: to prevent Salem from infiltrating the kingdom and to prevent a war… Supposedly.

Okay, but what did it cause?

Some say that Drunk Mann and Drinking Buddy were drunk and unemployed. But actually, we saw that Drinking Buddy lost his job after Sparks. We don't know if Drunk Mann lost his job before or not.

About being drunk… okay, I guess the embargo situation is so bad that it makes them get drunk to cope with the crisis. But, really, it doesn't tell us much about the clear effects of the embargo.

Drinking Buddy: The embargo… The embargo's got us in a rough patch. But it'll blow over, you'll see. Drunk Mann: We try and help the other Kingdoms, and this is what happens? I say let 'em rot!

They complain about the embargo… and that's it. We know it affects them, but we don't know how.

Look, it's clear. We can say that with Jacques we saw the effects of the embargo.

Jacques: Your Dust embargo has already cost me millions! I can promise you, I have not forgotten!

But in theory, it also affects Mantle. And people complain about the embargo even before Jacques laid people off at Sparks.

There's a beggar in Mantle, but well… in real life, even without embargoes, there are beggars. We don't see desperate people asking for jobs on the street, people begging but in large numbers, people stealing to survive, people pleading for food, high prices for products, people burning their money because it no longer has any value other than keeping warm, etc.

I remind you that even before the embargo there was poverty in Mantle and that's something the people mention. As a matter of fact, the slums aren't something created by Ironwood.

So, how does it affect them?

That's speaking about Mantle. Because if we talk about Atlas in general… the only one complaining about the embargo in Atlas's high society is Jacques. But a trade embargo should have harmed everyone: It should have prevented them from selling products or receiving raw materials from other countries.

What about outsiders? It would have been interesting to know how the embargo affects the other kingdoms. Yes, Leonardo and the Atlas council say that the embargo has caused friction between Atlas and Mistral.

But what about the economic impact? Without refined Dust from Atlas, the kingdoms are more defenseless. Settlements are falling to the Grimm. Industries are collapsing due to lack of fuel. Even something as simple as fuel would become more expensive.

Velvet had to be more careful with her weapon (Anesidora) because of the embargo, but this is the only instance (that I can recall) of how the embargo leaves people vulnerable.

Why is this important?

First, because the characters emphasize it, but we aren't shown the true effects of the embargo beyond making people angry. I mean, they're angry, but what exactly is making them angry?

Second. It's actually an interesting topic. Just think about it, the embargo could have made things more difficult for Remnant and thus harmed the world.

Third. They missed a great opportunity to justify Team RWBY's distrust of Ironwood. Just think about it, with the embargo in place, people's lives would now be miserable. It would make sense for Ruby to distrust Ironwood when they've seen him suffer both inside and outside of Atlas.

In canon, the characters talk about why they distrust Ironwood, but their reasons seem quite weak. The embargo is mentioned, but it's never stated that it's so bad. That, for me, is the most important point. The embargo was a missed opportunity.

Even a simple way to address this issue is to mention that the military has to ration Dust (and food) like in the Great War. Okay, that shows how Ironwood messes up people's lives, but at the same time he tries to do the right thing (he tries to make sure there's dust and food for everyone) even though he ultimately fails.

Ultimately, you've added context to his fall into villainy. Perfect.

And, to be honest, the Dust scarcity is hardly an issue for most of the show except for only one gag in Volume 9 to justify Blake and Weiss getting their weapons.

-Oddly enough Death battle's Torian a black animator and brunt of the DB fights left around the same time for "creative differences" then coincidentally rejoined after DB brought its independence stating in the podcast he was in he didn't care for how RT ran things. Hmmmm.

-and lastly class they're going to Vacuo and what was something these naive white people wrote about desert states? That's right! They wrote on their official wiki that sand was like spice to them cause it's hard to get out their food.

The kingdom was once Mantle, the kingdom who thought censoring art was the right way to go and was pretty much the guys who started the Great War in the first place.

The guy running the academy is one of those lawful characters who ends up being more authoritarian than an Orwellian villain.

The richest man in Atlas is a corrupt business man who has questionable business partners and wouldn’t hesitate to slap his children should they try to rebel from his abusive grasp.

We had denizens of this kingdom who laughed at two separate tragedies with multiple casualties.

Is Atlas trying to be the most evil kingdom next to Mistral?
